Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 AA still twiddling his fingers... debating what to have for lunch
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 What the f*** does Arizona want with Vidal Nuno? Our version of him is Chad Jenkins. Below-replacement 26-year-old. Two Words: Kevin Towers.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 He was busy sending multiple scouts to watch a professional pitcher in Chicago pitcher, even though he's been in the league multiple years and has tons of scouting reports and stats on him already
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2014 Author Posted July 6, 2014 There has to be more to the deal, than Vidal Nuno? Nope. It's a straight-up swap. Arizona just happy to free up some $$.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 So, um....Ian Kennedy? Jose Quintana? Who's the next decent target?
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 From MLBTR 10:21am: The D’Backs will be eating money in the deal, tweets ESPN’s Buster Olney. McCarthy is owed the prorated portion of his $10.25MM contract, plus the $1MM signing bonus he is set to earn after being traded. WTF
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 This deal just keeps getting better. Ugh.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 We need a bat before another arm. Sanchez and Francisco for Beltre.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 There's something up with McCarthy, the DBacks aren't that dumb.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 We need a bat before another arm. Sanchez and Francisco for Beltre. Beltre isn't getting traded. Daniels pretty much said Darvish and Beltre are untouchable.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 There's something up with McCarthy, the DBacks aren't that dumb. Remember who their GM is.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Thanks I'm not surprised. McCarthy has been bad despite what some people say. I guess this also means Sabbathia is out for the season?
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Nice move by the Yanks (Talent > ERA)
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 There's something up with McCarthy, the DBacks aren't that dumb. That something is he's not good lol.

I guess this also means Sabbathia is out for the season? No, his defense and the luck dragons have been bad. McCarthy has been one of the best pitchers in the National League.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Well.....I'm now offering Ricky Romero + Deck McGuire straight up for Martin Prado if I'm the Jays GM.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 There's something up with McCarthy, the DBacks aren't that dumb. Even with increased velocity? I just don't like this deal.. he got hit at a .298 clip with the D-Backs, and will likely be worse in New York. Pretty much a dump by the D-Backs.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 No, his defense and the luck dragons have been bad. McCarthy has been one of the best pitchers in the National League. I know the advanced stats argument but I disagree. He has a nice K:BB but leaves way too many pitches over the plate. He is better than his ERA but he's still bad IMO.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 If Arizona likes s***....we have plenty to give them.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 When our line up gets healthy, we'll destroy McCarthy. No massive upgrade here folks, they need an arm. CC is done for the year.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 I'd rather have Happ in the rotation than McCarthy. He's not what he was, he's done. BP machine.
sh3156 Verified Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Honestly McCarthy isn't that good, I wouldn't pick him over Happ right now. I get the overstated ERA thing, but this guy has given up 131 hits in a 109 innings, He will not last long in the AL East
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2014 Author Posted July 6, 2014 I'd rather have Happ in the rotation than McCarthy. He's not what he was, he's done. BP machine. McCarthy would be our #2 starter after Stroman. He strikes guys out, doesn't walk anyone and gets a ton of groundballs. That combination is simply not going to continue to be ineffective. Brandon McCarthy is really really good and this trade could change the balance of power in the AL East.

Time will tell, but imo he's going to get lit up.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Well.....I'm now offering Ricky Romero + Deck McGuire straight up for Martin Prado if I'm the Jays GM. I think I threw out there yesterday acquiring both Prado and McCarthy in the same deal! The D-Backs are even paying part of the remaining $...lol. I have no clue what AA is doing 'cause we know he ain't doing s***. And for the homers, I'm not talking about stupid trades, I'm talking about trades like the title of this thread. Let's face it, this sets the price very low for Prado/Hill given the type of season they're having and even lower for a rental like Headley although that's a different GM in SD.
