JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 This is interesting. It's still in the early stages but would be interesting to see if this is another tool to help pitchers from blowing out their arms. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2097866-the-sleeve-that-could-save-baseball-exclusive-look-at-new-mlb-technology
Caper Verified Member Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 It's killing me... Clicking on a bleacher report link.
JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted July 2, 2014 Author Posted July 2, 2014 It's killing me... Clicking on a bleacher report link. Oh I know. I saw it as the Bleacher Report and almost didn't want to read it. It's not bad by their standards.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 The hate for Bleacher Report is so overdone at this point, that the people who dismiss articles off the bat just because they're posted on BR are stupider than the morons that gave BR a bad rep in the first place. The portion of articles written by fans and bloggers are what is ridiculous about Bleacher Report, not the articles submitted by legitimate writers. Some of the best pieces you see year in and year out come from Bleacher Report. Great story by the way, I'm always a supporter of technology that will reduce injuries and keep more guys on the field. It's already been proven by the Brewers, who were known for their biomechanical research long before this stuff was posted.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 Baseball doesn't need saving. Improving pitcher health is probably a good idea though even if the positive effects are hard to quantify. Maybe better biomechanical data is the answer as this article suggests.

It's already been proven by the Brewers, who were known for their biomechanical research long before this stuff was posted. It looks promising especially since it's not interfering with the pitcher's mechanics, very light weight, and works for all ages. It would be nice to see more clubs at least test them in spring training or maybe with their pitchers who have had some kind of elbow injury, whether its' TJS or even just a sprain to see if it'll help them make some adjustments. Anything that can help prevent an injury would be great. My concern is with the younger players. If they're not hurt early on in their playing (early mid teens and up) which might end a chance for them to get at least a partial scholarship, get drafted or signed by a MLB club, they might have a bad habit/mechanics/stress that blows it out later. I'm going to have to keep an eye on this and find some more info.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 I just can't stand the charlatan ******** way they drum up hits by making everything a slideshow. Can't be bothered with that format and don't click most of their links because of it. What gets me is that on the projections and odds slideshows (which make up a good chunk of their content), the writers don't even bother to make the sure the math works out. I just clicked on an end-of-season wins projection update article (http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2110050-updated-winloss-projections-for-every-mlb-team-at-the-midseason-mark/) and they doled out 2463 wins... more than a win per team (33) of impossibleness. Why am I going to care about your predictions if they literally CANNOT come true!? And they sensationalize everything, including this admittedly-decent article's title. This idea that you have to respect Bleacher Report because 5% of their articles aren't garbage is ridiculous. I shouldn't have to dig around for 20 minutes to find something decent to read. There's too much stuff on the internet for me to bother.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 As someone who very nearly needed TJS, this is wonderful. f***ing hate clicking a BR link, but wonderful.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 It seems like BR is starting to improve. Still lots of crap, the but odd article like this makes it through that makes it worth not immediately dismissing.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 A supposed legit writer for them made up some crap about a Raptors sign & trade with their top FA target and player (Kyle Lowry for those don't know what I'm talking about), then had to apologize Kevin Gray style saying he didn't understand why his source would lie to him blah blah blah, BR really hasn't changed much and when the guys they pay aren't doing anything of worth either it doesn't help their credibility.

"Supposedly legit" writers write ******** year 'round for every website, that isn't limited to Bleacher Report.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 It's not limited to BR, but it certainly is more frequent at BR
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 It's not limited to BR, but it certainly is more frequent at BR No it's not. You're evading the point. It's seems more frequent at BR because there are more s***** non-writers at BR. I'm talking about legitimate writers, like what Hayhurst can be considered. In that group of guys, it's no more common for garbage to be written at BR than it is anywhere else, whether it's ESPN, The Sun, 590, or anywhere else. Granted, there still might be a high frequency of garbage, but that isn't an exception to the rule, it's just on par with the majority of news outlets.

I'm much too tired to put forth a huge effort for this, but you're saying that only considering the legitimate writers at BR, they post equal amount of garbage to a guy like Hayhurst and not much more than normal? I'd agree with that, but my own point is that BR has a lot more s***** non-writers like you said. Guys that just shouldn't be employed. Of the actual writers, they're good, but they have a lot of guys who shouldn't be employed is the point I'm making. In terms of raw numbers, they have a lot more s***, like 49 said. Shouldn't have to search for 20 mins. But if they cut down to the legit, actual writers that you're talking about, they'd be just fine.

The Sun, 590 and ESPN are garbage too though when it comes to opinion and not pure journalism. Other than a few ESPN writers (e.g. KLaw), nothing from those three sites has ever changed how I thought about a particular situation and so I don't frequent them either. It's a low bar to compare B/R to.
