What stood out to me is the ease with which Stroman was discussed. For Bud Norris? Jason Castro?

I'm not upset that they wouldn't trade Sanchez as the centre piece of a package to get Norris, but it is what it is, others see things differently.

Did they actually end up getting a better package than that? Or was it just trade discussions. The O's were thought to be unwilling to trade Gausman, but open to trading Bundy.

[Alex Anthopoulos] said Lawrie was untouchable. Sounded like they might consider a smaller deal for Stroman but later in off season.

[Luhnow] talked to [Marlins GM Dan Jennings] and said we had interest in Stanton. DJ said he doesn't think he'll trade Stanton and the only deal he could think of from us that would work would be Springer and Correa. JL said that would not work. JL posited a deal around Cosart and Deshields.

I have absolutely no problem with them discussing what it would take to get Norris. Clearly, the Astros were asking for too much from all teams, including Boagaerts from the Red Sox.

[blue Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos] texted [Luhnow] and asked what it would take for Norris. AA said Aaron Sanchez is off the table but might be willing to talk about anyone else.

This is going to hurt the Astros a lot, as information like this is going to make teams not want to trade with Houston or give them anything decent.

 

It's embarrassing for an organization to let confidential information fall onto a site such as Deadspin. Someone is going to get fired for this in the Astros organization.

Yeah Stroman doesn't have the stuff that Sanchez has but that doesn't mean he's a s***** pitcher.

Funnily enough, I remember several on this board joking about how AA couldn't trade any relievers in the off season because he was probably overvaluing them and was asking for top prospects in return.

I don't think we can fault AA for talking about Stroman. I mean just look at all the other stuff that was said.. Its one thing to talk about stuff and another to make an offer.

This stuff makes Jeff Luhnow sound more and more like the turds that fail at trade-raping in fantasy ball. Makes him lose a lot of the luster I thought he had, and makes me wonder how much credit he really deserves for the recent Astros moves. Based on these records, there are clearly other people outside of Luhnow that are constantly in communication with other clubs about their players.
