Love it. Opens the door a tiny crack to talk about women in the mlb, which... If she can throw a knuckleball effectively... Why not?

Why not? Would never, ever happen. Serena Williams is arguably the greatest woman tennis player to ever live. Read the stories about her getting destroyed by men who were hardly even ranked on the practice courts. One past prime club pro was half drunk and still man handled her. Women cannot compete with men. Never have been able to and never will be able to.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 She might be an upgrade on Dickey. AA sign her.

Not exactly a pitch that needs to be thrown 90+. Wakefield only threw 60-65 with his. What would matter if it was a chick throwing a 60 mph knuckler?

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 I'd love to see females in baseball. I know realistically they'd never be able to compete on a level playing field with men in the majors in really any aspect of the game except.. Maybe as a knuckleballer.

over500 Verified Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Apparently women's olympic hockey is the equivalent of peewee boy's hockey. That's pretty shameful. Watched USA vs China women's hockey few years back. Man...

Maybe as a knuckleballer. Someone tried to convince me once basketball was a sport women had a shot at competing against men. ( as guards) It's pretty amazing how ignorant people can be; I don't care how goofy people like Greveis Vasquez can look at times. They still are athletic beasts and are stronger than the local muscle heads you'll find at the gym every day

closetjaysfan Verified Member Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Eri Yoshida, a female Japanese sidearm knuckleballer pitches or at least pitched in semi-pro leagues in the US. Apparently she learned to throw the knuckleball by watching Tim Wakefield on TV. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eri_Yoshida

The Billy Jean King vs. Bobby Riggs is cited as an example of women triumphing over men. Riggs may have been past his prime, but he was a former #1.

Riggs may have been past his prime, but he was a former #1. Funny you mention the King vs Riggs match as an example. In her prime she beat someone way older that was 30 yrs removed from playing. In fact most thought she didn't even play well and if Riggs was fit he would've won. How did the Williams sisters do against any man ranked 200 below? Yes, that's as far as they dared challenge and they lost. In the sport I played competitively, any man ranked in the top 200 easily beat the top women and that is a fact, since in many tournaments men do play against women. I wouldn't even say this sport was one where muscle was a hugely deciding factor.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted June 24, 2014 Author Posted June 24, 2014 I saw the E:60 episode, a couple years ago, she dominated her leagues back then, with guys much older than her. I'm not debating she can throw a knuckleball well. I just find it extremely hard to believe this 7 or 8 year old girl is at a park playing baseball or wherever, and Ol' Joe Niekro stumbled into her and the conversation of teaching a 7 or 8 year old how to throw a knuckleball came up. He has to know her family. This isn't some random 7 year old girl that Niekro just decided he was going to teach how to throw a knuckler.
