G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 Quiet evening on here - thought I'd be provocative Is it his turn to get a shot? Happ is bad. Dickey is grumbling with groin issue. Hutch is having problems. Drabek has been at least decent in AAA Buffalo all year and his last 5 weeks have been frankly good. Walking less than 3/9 all season, only 2 starts (I think) where he's walked more than 2. Worth a shot for a few weeks??

JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 Fangraphs and Baseball Reference don't show game by game performance. Does anywhere? Or at least month by month? Here has the past 10 games: http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=475138 I wouldn't be against it per se. He hasn't been impressive but that he's holding up at all after his 2nd TJS being as (relatively) young that he is is somewhat impressive. If Happ has lost what he had earlier in the season, why not? Worse case he comes up and bombs. I'm sure he'll be back around September. If he can come up and be of any use, starter would be better, but hell even out of the pen, we might be able to salvage something out of that trade and/or if he shows he can at least put up some quality starts some team might be willing to take him in a trade either as a throw in or something. This team has given less talented players another shot.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 22, 2014 Author Posted June 22, 2014 Last 5 games (not last 5 weeks), Drabek has a 4.33 ERA in 27 IP (never going more than 6, or less than 5), 30 Hits, 4 HR, 14 K and 8 BB. His last outing was 5 IP even though he didn't start the game. Not exactly lighting up, despite having been in AAA for what seems like years. Thanks. Guess not. I had heard some optimism about how he was performing in AAA, but it seems to have been overstated.

Not exactly lighting up, despite having been in AAA for what seems like years. you go back his last 10 and his his era is 3.86 with 38ks and 19 walks in 56 innings. He isn't lighting it up, but he hasn't been terrible and his walk rate this year has been pretty good. At this point I just don't want the 5th guy to give games away by walking too many batters like Happ does. Drabek might be worth a shot. Ideally we're going to make a trade eventually, but in the interim I don't see a reason not to give Drabek a shot. HIs walk rate for the entire year is just under 3, which is a huge improvement for Drabek.

SAAviour Verified Member Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 You know what is sad, drabeks stuff was/is legit. The first few games he pitched I still remember the movement...but now he is being out pitched by Hendrix in AAA or how ever you spell the f***ers name.

Hendricks was the gas can that gave it up yesterday and only lasted 1 2/3 innings.

If they aren't going to give him a start, then move him to the pen. He's walked 10 in his last 46 innings. Even with K's down it's still a 3 to 1 K to BB ratio.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 I want to see him start. I said it in the off-season, we have space in the rotation and we should use every opportunity to see what we have with Stroman, Hutch and Drabek. The first two have gotten time already, but Drabek is still the odd man out.

43211234 Verified Member Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 The exact same things could be said for Drabek. Meh, not really. Drabek actually has a chance to provide value to a major league team.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 McGuire posted better K-rates in the minors than Drabek. Shame there's no SIERA data available on the majority of their MiLB careers.

Shame there's no SIERA data available on the majority of their MiLB careers. McGuire is a pure shitballer who spent four goddamn years at AA. Drabek has the stuff to have a chance to contribute to a major league bullpen. Drabek >>>>>>> McGuire
