G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 Although a good outfield arm may not be worth a ton statistically it sure is nice to have a few of them. And it's not always just the guys gunned down at home, but holding runners. Witness multiple plays where runners hold at third because of Bautista's arm. Also note we essentially won a game in Detroit because we knew we could run on Rajai Davis.

Jose's arm offsets a lack of range somewhat but its hard to account for in his defensive numbers. I thought the Jose Guillen throw clip was pretty incredible. Had forgotten his cannon. Makes me wonder why we tried to run on Cespedes in As series.

admin Site Manager Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 Guillen one has always beeen one of my favorite ones. I think Ankiel has a coule more good ones not on that list. Bo Jackson one is pretty good too, mainly because he did it from a standstill rather than use his momentum.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 How about this one: I love the reaction by the colour commentator on the play.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2014 Author Posted June 14, 2014 How about this one: I love the reaction by the colour commentator on the play. I love these videos...young Vlady was simply an awesome player. I remember him coming up...its been SO long we had a true impact player like that come up through Jays ranks. Remember Raines coming up....hitting and stealing everything.

I remember going to around 130 games at the Big 'Owe in '98 and '99 mainly to watch him and what a show he put on! It does make me feel old though.

Candy Maldonado Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 mlb had this one on their list
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2014 Author Posted June 17, 2014 mlb had this one on their list Jesus....amazing these guys. What cannons
Virgil_Hiltz Verified Member Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 The one the stood out for me was by Ellis Valentine against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Frank Tavaras (one of the fastest guys in baseball) was on first and the batter hit a liner into the rf corner. Valentine fielded the ball, spun and threw a strike on the fly to the 3rd base and nailed Taveras! IMHO Valentine had the best arm I've ever seen, quick release and always accurate!
admin Site Manager Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 mlb had this one on their list That was cannon for sure. Took a few extra steps though.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 That Guillen throw was ridiculous though. rf warning track to third on the fly, chest high bang on. Insane.

There is some Ellis. Gun! Was never the same after the beaning. Mondesi also has a really good arm. We have had a few good arms in RF. Green - Jose - Barfield.

McD Verified Member Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 That was an enjoyable watch! Guillen's and Jackson's were pretty special but nothing beats ankiel's for me - just love that whole situation where the runner doesn't even bother trying and ankiel nails the strike.
CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 How about this one: I love the reaction by the colour commentator on the play. Dude, young Vlad was the man! He threw strikes at home plate from the warning track lol!! That's one of my favorite throws of all time, if not my favorite!
