Iluvbjs Verified Member Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 I agree with you. And another point if you follow the win probability I would think the Jays went from a 95% chance of winning to 40% in a couple of plays. So in that sense the reactions were absolutely rational. The biggest emotional reactions should follow the biggest changes in win probability. People aren't stupid. So I think the so-called over-reactions, aren't really over-reactions but actually rational. If you are going to freak out about any play it is the play that changes the win probability the most. LOL, that's where i was snapping a bit. The plays that should end games that aren't being made. Reyes did it last week so when Tolleson did it again I was like "oh f***, here we go" and sure enough, s*** imploded. But that's what dictates sports, you see it all the time, if you don't finish s*** off when you should, it comes back to bite you in the ass.

Convo Verified Member Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the Blue Jays Message Board over the course of a single at-bat: Pillar still sucks. I liked him up until I realized he has zero plate discipline, zero idea of the strike zone, zero patience. Recipe for major league fail.

Convo Verified Member Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Pillar's plate discipline makes Gose look like Barry Bonds. Its terrible Yup. The fact that he has hit .300+ at every level until the majors makes me think the minor league system has no scouting reports whatsoever. Take a f***ing walk much? His wRC+ is 38.... how on gods green earth are people even considering to keep this guy up??

Guy didn't show great discipline for the first couple pitches, but you only need to connect on one, and that's what he did.

He'll just swing flailingly at everything like a buffoon.

Caper Verified Member Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Are you actually watching the game, Dickey will have the Jays down 6-0 by the 4th inning. That i can guarrantee Orrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr......... no.

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 LOL. Priceless. Check out Jaysfan_85's reaction. Should I rage or should I rave... Should I stay or should I go... Just my opinion, but in a GDT a little more vitriol and venting is acceptable. It does get over the top and too reactionary sometimes. It was almost like Pillars whole essence of being was sustained by his bloop winner...a stay of execution so to speak. The reality is he has done whats been asked of him and his outcome shouldn't be determined by his misguided dive or bloop. With him, I think his ability to LAY OFF A f***ING BALL OUT OF THE ZONE is going to determine his MLB prospects. Pitch selection is his kryptonite.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 I could be mistaken, but Gose's low OBP is probably more a result of a low BA than a low BB%. I think you should check his BB% to confirm or disprove this. He also has a high K% in the minors, again, if IIRC. Caps out at 10.6% in the minors (ignoring SSS outliers), last season he was at 8.6% in the minors. While that is not (as I said) "pretty poor", it is at best a bit above average and with the rest of Gose's skill set, (and the fact that he Ks at a pretty awful rate) it is not enough to make him a viable player as anything more than a 4th OF long term. Hopefully he'll pick it up and start to get on base, because I would love his wheels and D in the line-up, but for now, bring back Cleatus!

With him, I think his ability to LAY OFF A f***ING BALL OUT OF THE ZONE is going to determine his MLB prospects. Pitch selection is his kryptonite. Venting is acceptable however it seems a bit overboard most of the times. It really dampens the mood of the thread. The Jays offense has the potential to score lots of runs in a game however some will be uttering the game's over very early in the game. It's as if there have absolutely no idea about the game of baseball. Also, some plays can really look bone-headed and mind-boggling but to live and die by almost every play is just unbelievable. This does not automatically give anyone the license to be overly obnoxious. Some on here are quick to call the umps/Gibbons/Rivera/Walker/Anthopoulos/insert multiple players names idiots. Why is there a need to call him, or any other team member, an idiot/loser etc.? It's as if those who are doing the name calling can actually do better under the same circumstances. Maybe in their minds they can do better but if that were really so they would be playing at the MLB level rather than from their safe little couches. The only idiots/losers, in my mind, are those who have absolutely no self-control over the outcome of a game. I can partially understand if you have placed a sizable sum of money on the outcome of a game but then again that's also idiotic unless you really have money to burn. in before anyone else - tl;dr
Convo Verified Member Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 You figure that can improve with time.... if he gets time. Maybe, maybe not.
IBTrini Verified Member Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 I see your point to a degree' date=' but when you've got guys not making routine plays with 2 outs in the ninth and the game on the line? WTF do you expect? Because [b']I expect that type of thing to happen once in a season, if that, not twice in a week.[/b] Those types of errors are definitely infuriating however the concept of perfection in a game of baseball is rare however only 1 routine error is really having high expectations. Playing and making split-second decisions in the heat of the moment is not as easy as you would think it is. Pillar did say, either on TV or in a report, he should have played it differently but in that moment he felt it was a play he could make. It hopefully became a learning experience and everyone in the MLB has room to grow (learn). For all that Bautista brings to the team he too has his bad moments (bad decisions) on plays in the field. It's just part of the game - trying to keep the momentum on your team's side can sometimes conflict with common sense. It's not as if they are deliberately choosing to make a bad play.
IBTrini Verified Member Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Pillar would have looked like an idiot if Kratz was thrown out at home. The guy is already jogging towards the mound before the play has even happened. Really just a brain dead play True. Hopefully the coaches also saw this taking place and will bring it to both his attention and the rest of the team as well.
BlueJaysGirl Verified Member Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Like a lot of you, clearly, I am a bi-polar fan, so I too went through the lows ("f*** you, Pillar") to the highs ("Jays win!"). I'm glad I'm not the only one. But c'mon, be brutally honest...a lot of you were at least thinking f*** you, Pillar
IBTrini Verified Member Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Orrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr......... no. Remind me never to buy any stuff from him cuz that guarantee sucks.
