TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Why does every team have pre-draft deals except for the Jays (with the exception of their $10K Senior guys)?
RIPEXPOS Verified Member Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 I wouldn't hold my breath if that's what you're hoping for. I'm not saying he's going to win batting titles, or needs to to be worth that pick, but he is a guy who's value is going to be heavily weighted by his batting average (it's the tool that has the best chance to be plus or plus-plus)...
Mikeleelop Verified Member Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 2:02 [ Comment From PatrickPatrick] Have you heard anything out of Toronto re: Hoffman and Pentecost? Thought both of them were supposed to be relatively easy signings 2:03 Steve Adams: Just because both are expected to sign doesn't mean they'll be quick. I saw Jim Callis say they both might take awhile. Hoffman's negotiations in particular will probably be arduous. He was in line for $4MM+ a few months ago. He won't get that now, but exactly how much under slot he gets could take awhile to hash out.

Maybe I'm misremembering what I read, but I don't think this is true. That would be his arm and his speed.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 I was thinking more along the lines of Johnny Bench. Mauer would be okay too though.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2014 Author Posted June 17, 2014 Nonsense, hyperbole and sarcasm aside, in a more optimistic sense, Jason Kendall is a good comparison to what you want Pentecost to become.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 I wish! Lol But anything non bluejays should be in the minor league thread not here, just saying! Lol King can you add all scouting reports on our picks here as well? Thanks you!

Don't see how some can't get this, but exactly. As for the Kendall comp, that definitely works. Won't win any gold gloves, won't hit for much power, but will give you a nice average and OBP while being solid behind the dish and bringing above average athleticism on the bases. That's what we're hoping for. But the point I was trying to make was that his value is heavily tied to his ability to hit. If he struggles to hit ML pitching, he's not going to be bringing anything special to the table.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Lol, I love the casual comps that get dropped. Y'know, quick Joe Mauer, that "type." I was thinking more along the lines of Johnny Bench. Mauer would be okay too though. A hybrid between Mauer and Jason Kendall sounds sexy.

NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Wasn't Wells signed a while ago? Not quite. He agreed to sign. Now he is signed. It's annoying to have these duplicate news stories.
fireballW Verified Member Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Wasn't Wells signed a while ago? It is just confusing because this board is friggen amazing and the posters on this board kick so much ass that they figure things out faster than most people who are paid to do the same thing. Really, big props to all you guys for all the digging you do.

SJE32 Verified Member Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 I think if ZZ wants over slot Bonus. Jays should eat the $192,000. ZZ can go back to school. Jays should have a good idea what everybody wants, especially inside the first 10 rounds.
