The Toronto Blue Jays added some depth to their bullpen Tuesday, officially recalling right-hander Chad Jenkins before Tuesday’s series opener against the Detroit Tigers. The 26-year-old takes the place of Liam Hendriks, who was optioned to the minors after making two starts for Toronto.

This marks the fourth MLB stint of the season for Jenkins, who has pitched three innings and allowed three earned runs in three games. In 68.1 innings spanning three big league seasons, he has a 3.82 ERA with 4.3 K/9 and 2.2 BB/9.

Jenkins has spent most of the year at triple-A Buffalo, where he has a 4.01 ERA in 33.2 innings with 21 strikeouts and seven walks.

Hendriks started two games for the Blue Jays, posting a 2.31 ERA in 11.2 innings. However, the Australia native allowed many hard-hit balls, and the Blue Jays decided to add Marcus Stroman to their starting rotation instead.

lol i love how people think santos is completely useless. honestly i'd probably have more faith in him than delabar as our goto right handed setup man

I can't keep up, I thought Stroman took Hendricks' spot. Who got sent down for Stro?

Rasmussen was sent down, Korecky was brought up. Day later Korecky was sent down, Stroman was brought up. 2 days later Hendriks was sent down. 1 day later Jenkins was called up.

I think Wagner wouldve gotten the call, but he got hurt over the weekend.

Santos stuff is still nasty, Delabar not so much.

Since the start of 2010 (his first season), Santos has been better than Janssen by SIERA (2.80 to 2.84). They're exactly tied in xFIP (3.18) and xFIP- (78).

Santos is really good, we need him.

Santos is really good, when he can command his fastball, not so much if he cant.

This is the proper way to use your minors. Jenkins has no huge future value but any innings he can give you in a blowout (win or loss) is a bonus. Then you send him right back down to start in Buffalo. I expect he'll have 3 more trips up and down before September.

*Yawn*

The Santos > Janssen crowd still going strong even though Santos can't close a game...

Exactly. Jenkins is only here to eat innings if games get out of hand. The armchair GM's on here will criticize any and every move.

Not one person said Santos > Janssen....But he could be a valuable piece in the bullpen. You need to relax, no one said he would replace or be better then Casey.

Santos is a good middle reliever who can't handle the pressure of closing games. As a 7th or 8th inning guy sure let's use him. As a closer, forget it, he's terrible. Comparing him to Janssen is pointless, Janssen has a special quality that makes him good in the 9th inning.

You must have missed all the Santos fapping the last 2 years.

"How long until Santos is back"

"Jenkins is s***"

Blah blah blah

are you capable of reading? not one person criticized this move. jenkins may be s*** but that doesn't mean people are mad at this move, it's not like we have better options

when he's on, Santos has shown to be lights out...

when he's off, which was often, he gave off the Rogers vibe - the, 'oh crap, he's coming into the game, there goes the lead/game' vibe...

for a few million, he's worth keeping around with the hopes he comes around...$6m next season - i'd be shocked if they pick up the option...

as the games get more and more meaningful (hopefully), Santos in the pen likely becomes a risk unless a) he's on a good roll B) he's not but he's limited to 1 or 2 hitters as a specialist...

Stroman was slotted in as a 6th starter originally and he took the place of Korecky on the roster. Korecky replaced Rasmussen. The net result is Korecky gets added to the 40 man and in a round about way Jenkins replaces Rasmussen and Stroman replaces Hendricks.
