Eh. I don't like it. It has its uses, though. Just not a fan. I don't hate it for the statistics, I hate it for what a pain in the ass it can be to pull data.

It's fantastic for almost everything except for the advanced stats.

Salaries, transaction history, draft history, historical games.

It's easily one of the best baseball websites out there.....

I use Cotts for salaries. I'll give you transaction history, draft history, and historical games. And award races!

For pulling data, however, which is what I do a /lot/ it's near useless, unfortunately.

Ok, so why were you making fun of someone for using Baseball-Reference when they clearly weren't using it for research?

It's salaries are pretty cleared laid out though..broken down by year as well as contract. It's a quality site it just gets hate as it's viewed as old school

Cause I don't like the site, lol. It has its uses but I don't like it so I made fun of it.

Also, this is about advanced stats, of which BR isn't great

Like three posts up you acknowledged that it was a very useful website.

And I just did, again, in that post you quoted. It has its uses. I don't like it. I do not like some of the features on it. Thus, I made a light hearted joke about it.

Arguing semantics when I'm like 50% on your side really isn't how I envisioned spending my Friday night, ECJF.

You make it sound like B-R is an absolute joke of a site. Is it as good as FanGraphs? Of course not, but it's still a fantastic website.

There's some aspects of B-R I prefer over Fangraphs.

Like I said they're much better in transaction history, salary, etc

Fangraphs only goes back to 2006 in MiLB for some guys which is annoying

stats r scary1!!!!

No they aren't and for the record I do advanced statistics at my work as a professional engineer.

Statistical analysis has its uses and it has its abuses.

They are meant as a way of comparing players. So why wouldn't you use them for that purpose?

Is this how most of the board preferred Jiminez over Santana and moaned and moaned when they found out AA was targeting Santana?

JFAS was very against Jimi, not sure on Santana though

Nobody wanted either of them all, we ended up getting desperate and wanted the best options available

Yeah like some have said, they aren't the be-all end-all. It was making me sick how some posters in the offseason were one-dimensional in their arguments/assessments by just saying "Steamer projects this player to do this and that" when having discussions on certain players.

Will take Steamer over anybody's personal projections. Worked out pretty well for me at least.

Intuition tells me EE is going to end up approximately where he ended up last year. I don't need to spend hours doing advanced stats to come up with that answer.

And your guesses on Anthony Rizzo? Scott Kazmir? Dan Haren? Steamer pretty good in predicting breakouts/bounce backs for all of them.

Nobody wanted Santana?

IIRC not many people really wanted Santana until he was the last guy out there. Even when it was just him and Jimi, people wanted Jimi. And then when the O's scooped him up, people started wanting Santana because we were desperate for the best option available.

A lot of teams wanted Santana, they just didn't want him at the 4-years/50 million dollar price tag his camp was demanding.

I mean posters on this board. Sorry, wasn't clear.

Jimenez has turned it around guys! 98 xFIP-. That's not much worse than the Orioles can expect from him. Santana at one year looks like the better option though.

I care about projections a lot more for hitters than for pitchers. Pitchers just change too much. You have guys adding and losing velocity, adding pitches, bettering their command/control, etc. I put just as much or more stock in year-of peripherals than I do in long-term track record.
