Yeah. He struck out more than you wanted from a leadoff guy, but he made good contact and had some power.

spot on

The best thing for this team is if Rasmus comes back and tears it up while Gose goes back down to play everyday. Then we hope AA trades Rasmus. It's the best way for AA to acquire assets that can either be flipped for SP or to replenish the farm should he move Sanchez. Meanwhile he signs Melky to a team friendly extension and our OF is set for the next couple years.

I've always been hard on Gose, but still advocated a Gose/Pillar platoon in centre all off-season and get value out of Rasmus. This is still a guy that's a .232/.316/.300 slash line against lefties while playing in 2 hitters parks in the minors (with a 30.1 K-Rate). We can't expect that to improve long term in majors (might add that his current good numbers are being carried by a 4 for 10 against LHP). The defense is real and if Pillar isn't their guy...than get someone else to fill that role. CF's that hit LHP are often available cheap (I mentioned Craig Gentry in the off-season, who is a career 110 wRC against lefties). Rasmus was very replaceable by a good platoon.

Hurl, Pillar is gone. You have to accept this. It's over.

I disagree. I would 100% keep Gose as the 4th OFer. He appears to mentally finished with AAA. He goes back down, he probably sulks and struggles. He stays up, he provides a fantastic PR/defensive replacement as well as the occasional spot start in the OF. It's not like he needs a bunch more seasoning. He'll never be a great hitter so we might as well get maximum value out of him right now.

No, he isn't.

Has the hive put out a statement declaring their support for Pillar? I didn't see the press release.

Sorry hive members! I take back what I said! Pillar 2015 4th OFer!

It sucks because your right he has nothing left to do in AAA. And i do think that Gose is the starting CF next season. However i don't think him sitting on the bench is going to do anything for him. It would be AWESOME for the team because he would be a great bench player. Gose has shown he can start here and not be a slouch at the plate.

So this is basically me saying i don't know what the f*** is best to do with him.

I tend to agree, Gose seems to play better here then AAA, he still needs work, but his D and speed alone provide value.

He sulks after being sent to the minors

False, more likely Gose goes down.

Fact: Ricky Gervais was brilliant in the original British version of the office. But the surrounding cast on the American version is 1000 times better.

Actually, he was fine his last send down. Heard him interviewed and he was a lot better then I expected him to be... because I remembered him as really sulky.

Tend to agree with this. He is cocky and will learn more in MLB than AAA at this point = so says the law of diminishing returns. He needs to mentally and physically up his game in MLB. Who knows how much time our starting 3 will miss with injury? Gose is an awesome D replacement and back up for DL stints as we have seen. Spot starts against RHP in the 9 spot, and pinch runner obviously.

This kid future is all about upping his OBP - drags, BBS, slash hits....whatever it takes. Lets find out if he can.

On a semi-related note, Rajai Davis has regressed to pretty much exactly his career norms, now sporting a .268/.317/.377 slash line, though has stolen 14/16 bases.

Are they still batting him leadoff??

G-Snarls, since May 12th, with 1 off-day in there for the tigers, he's hit 9th 4 times, 1st 3 times & didn't really play in 3 but was a PR in one of those games...

so it seems they put him 1st against LHP's & Kinsler to 2nd but otherwise Kinsler 1st and usually Davis is playing & batting 9th...

not sure of course if that's what they've done all season...

This makes a lot of sense. He's proven that he can provide excellent D and he has great speed. You're probably right that he'll never be that great of a hitter, but if he can get on base at a decent clip he could provide good value.

if the jays aren't in it, get what you can for him whether you give him a QO or not...if the jays are in it & you can get a solid SP without giving up any other major assets, ie. Stroman/Sanchez, then something to consider...

Totally, and again, as I've stated, he's the kind of player (I think anyway), who will just steadily improve with playing time at the MLB level

If Gose can get on base and take some pitches I'll fap. Sample size needs to be larger though before I get a chub.

My much more likely dream is Pillar being a platoon guy with another team, so I can say "told you so". I'll wait 2 years for that post, cause there is no way the Jays are doing the right thing and moving Rasmus.

What, no guarantee like the one you made about Collins?

I like his speed, he will be useful on the bench in the late innings as a pinch runner when he doesn't start.

I like what I'm seeing so far. Hope he keeps on improving so that he stays on the team.

I would try to trade him regardless. This lineup is stacked and Gose is a superior defender. We don't need Rasmus bat in the lineup to contend. Move him for either controllable assets or SP.

I still would rather get Colby to sign a team friendly extension and let Gose be the 4th OF. His power in the bottom half of our lineup is a luxury and it's not like he's a butcher out there. Rasmus with a few years left on a good contract would be a more valuable asset later on.

If payroll wasn't an issue I would agree, but it is and this team needs to shed itself of a lot of payroll if they want the luxury of being in the FA market next winter. Rasmus likely commands $15M+ per season and I would rather pay Gose the league minimum and allocate that money to the rotation.

Watching Gose today against LHP reminded me of Major League:

"Willie Mays Hayes. I hit like Mays, and I run like Hayes." - Willie Mays Hayes

"You may run like Hayes. but you hit like s***." - Lou Brown

I think he is learning this, buts all about contact and OBP for him to stick. He has tantalizing tools.
