jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 And at 19-28, expect those fire sale rumors to increase. They're only slightly better than... the Houston Astros! At least Houston has talent for the future.. Tampa mortgaged its future by NOT trading David Price last winter, when his value was highest. And their farm system has dried up.. they have basically nothing coming in the system that is MLB ready, and several prospects like Hak-Ju Lee, Tim Beckham, etc. keep getting hurt or underperforming. They do have a young OF in Mike Mahtook.. but he's a terrible prospect with little power, only in the Rays Top 20 list due to the Rays lack of depth in the farm. Current OF Kevin Kiermaier isn't even a good prospect, ranked a below average 45 overall on MLB's rankings. They do have pitching prospects in the system, but several are hurt (Colome), suspended (Guerreri), and struggling (Karns, Montgomery.. don't be fooled by his recent no-hitter.. and Enny Romero) But they need position players.. they have NO MLB ready stars in that system that some fans think is one of the best in the game.. not even close. IIRC, most critics called the Rays farm system near the bottom of MLB right now, due to strong records making it difficult to draft decent talent. This is the worst Rays team since 2007..
jaysfaithful8 Verified Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Not sure if anyone has highlighted this, but Janssen has blown only 5 saves in 66 save opportunities since 2012. Very much appreciate having him, especially with our early bullpen woes.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 As long as he continues to stabilize the pen, it's not out of the question the Jays could go on a big run that could allow them to take a big lead in the AL East.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 10,555 in Tampa tonight. Very close to Expos territory.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Do you know how to quote people? There's a "reply with quote" button you can hit and it will make it a lot easier to see who you are talking to! Thanks for pointing that out.

CJ is doing this without getting that slow breaking ball over he loves to drop in yet. He still isn't as sharp as he usually is. He got away with a hanger tonight to Victorino. Love CJ - he battles and throws nasty strikes on the paint. Love having him back. I don't get that bile rising feeling when we get up on someone late when a certain other closer was being handed the ball.

Very much appreciate having him, especially with our early bullpen woes. Hey, he's been our equivalent of Mariano Rivera in our bullpen. With the bullpen stabilizing, we could go on a big run if the SP keeps up and the offense remains hot (2nd most runs in the AL, only behind Oakland.)

Also forgot to add that the Rays have the 2nd worst offense in the AL at 3.85 runs per game.. only Houston is worse. Unfortunately, as mentioned above, there are no bats coming in the Rays system. The only option is to trade David Price.. and that might not even be enough.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 LIES!!! Back to my before bed activity... Sorry to disappoint you, but it's real. The Rays are 19-28, with little hope in sight. Heck, even the Blue Jays could beat this team right now. In addition, struggling Boston can put Tampa out of their misery in their series this weekend.. and it wouldn't be surprising if the Red Sox did, even with their current struggles.

Spoonovic Verified Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Maybe I've been hiding under a rock but why is Francisco wearing that bright yellow/green arm band for the last month? Its a company that endorses him or he has a stake in. Bunch of guys on the team have started wearing lime green cause of him. For example EE's batting gloves have a bit of lime green.
HASHTAGYOLOSWAG Verified Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 (edited) Hey JFas are you disappointed in Edwin's production? He hit two home runs today but only 3 RBI's. In my personal opinion, Edwin's not doing his job until he starts producing more and getting more RBI's. Rbi's are the sign of an MVP. edit: Also I don't know why people are so high on Hutch, he only has 3 W's... Edited May 22, 2014 by HASHTAGYOLOSWAG

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Virtual tie for 1st place Keep rolling Jays! Need a sweep!!! Kick 'em while they're down... Absolutely, the boys need to show a little killer instinct and repay the Bosox for many a recent drubbing. Tough mound match up. May 22nd and a virtual tie for 1st place. Reminds me how much 2013 sucked.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Wonder what this team ends up doing with Janssen. He should've been traded but wouldn't surprise me to see them offer him a multi year extension at 5-7 a year. He's converted 61 of his last 66 save apperances. Dude is automatic in the 9th. The Santos/Janssen debate looks more and more ridiculous by the day. I wouldn't even be mad if they offered him something like that for 2-3 years. Still would be a decent trade asset in a year or two as well.

But the guy is nails the way AA like his bullpen would not surprise me if he is offered an extension. I don't like over paying "Closers" but i have a soft spot in my heart for Casey so as long as its not an outrageous overpay i will be fine with it.

AngryBird Verified Member Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 It's hilarious how people are on here trying to talk themselves, and everyone else into believing that the Rays are actually a good team this year. Even at 19-28, a run differential of -26.
