no he didn't balk or quick pitch, he was in his pitching motion and jose tried to pull out at the very last sec

That's fine, I'm not defending Jose it was a retarded play all around. I just thought pitching from the stretch one must come set.

Looked to me like Bautista was pissed he got quick pitched and seeing how he uses that leg kick for timing he just said f*** it.

According to mlb.com the "quick pitch" rule is as follows:

Rule 8.01 Comment: Pitchers may disengage the rubber after taking their signs but may not step quickly onto the rubber and pitch. This may be judged a quick pitch by the umpire.

No you can't, you guys are all wrong.

I'm pretty sure you can balk if you start and then stop from the stretch only, which then a ball is added to the batter's count.

Nope.

I just checked it out. With nobody on base and the pitcher is pitching from the stretch, he can't stop after starting his motion. If he does, it's considered an "illegal pitch" and a ball is awarded to the batter.

So yes, technically you cannot "balk" with the bases empty, but it's "illegal" to start and then stop from the stretch.
