Promotions to report: L.B. Dantzler is headed to the Lansing Lugnuts while Matt Boyd is going to New Hampshire!

Nice call to move Boyd up. He was making that league look silly and we might as well see if we have something in a guy who was too old for the level.

He's nothing to get a chubby over. Future #5 starter or reliever out of the pen.

It's similiar to Shane Dawson, the guy put up godly numbers in Rookie ( http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=sa658332&position=P ) but he's a deceptive lefty with unsexy stuff, and doesn't project very well.

Ill take a solid number 5. If he turns into that he'll be better than the two first rounders Jenkins and McGuire lol

I would too. If he can eat innings and save our bullpen while keeping our offense into the game I'd take that too.

Jairo Labourt demoted to extended spring training, and rightfully so. He's been awful.

I think he's hurt. I remember seeing he was pulled from a game after pitching like 1/3 of an inning

Boyd and Pompey swept the Florida State League for Players of the week last week.

Florida State League

Dalton Pompey, Dunedin

(.452/.514/.645, 7 G, 14-for-31, 1 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, 7 RBI, 9 R, 4 BB, 5 K, 4 SB)

A fourth-round pick out of suburban Toronto in 2010, Pompey spent most of three seasons in short-season ball before joining full-season Lansing in 2013. If he was solid for the Lugnuts -- .261/.358/.394 in 115 games -- he's looking like an MVP candidate thus far in Florida. Dunedin is off to an 18-5 start and Pompey is leading the way with a .371 average (third-best on the circuit) and a league-leading 12 stolen bases in 12 attempts. He still strikes out a lot for a guy with one homer, but he's getting on base and making things happen.

Florida State League

Matt Boyd, Dunedin

(1-0, 0.00 ERA, 1 G, 1 GS, 8 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 HR, 0 HBP, 0 BB, 12 K)

Say what you will about the win stat for pitchers, but it's no mistake that Boyd is 4-0 through his first five starts this season, as he showed last Friday in a victory over Clearwater (stats above). His 0.29 ERA on the season actually tops Lively for the best among Minor League hurlers with at least four starts under his belt. It coincides with a 0.74 WHIP and 37 strikeouts -- both good enough for second in the Florida State League. He's fanned at least seven batters in each of his last three starts, culminating in the 12-strikeout performance Friday.

Good to see Boyd getting promoted to AA, he certainly earned it and it'll be interesting to see how he does against players closer to his age.

Pompey's getting some well-deserved love as well. If he could make it to AA this year, that would be very good. I'm hoping Dwight Smith Jr does get a shot as a 2B as he's been good as well. Both Pompey and DSJ draw walks and use their speed.

Davis, on the other hand, is in a big funk at Lansing.

Still super early in the season, hopefully the ones struggling can turn it around and the hot ones stay hot...With 100 at bats, 5 hits is the difference between hitting .300 and .250

I also expect Lansing, New Hampshire and Buffalo to start hitting better once it warms up. It has been very cold for them so far this year
