closetjaysfan Verified Member Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 I think the rules against grip substances is kind of silly. It evolved due to pitchers trying to blacken the ball (mudballs) so that batters couldnt see it. Someone got killed and they made a rule, no more foreign substances. Well, now pitchers get a new ball every couple of pitches, so there is no danger of them being mudballs. At the same time, I hate cheating or even bending rules, so I hope everyone currently using the stuff gets caught. still should change the rule though.
Convo Verified Member Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 Our offense has lost focus Lol... well it was the bottom of our line-up
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 I don't blame Pineda, its only cheating if you get caught. Next time you won't be so dumb, he'll put it behind his ear

Uhh... isn't it more about the foreign substance affecting the spin and therefore the movement of the ball? If it was just about "blackening" the ball, nobody would even bother using it now, since that would be incredibly obvious, even to Orioles fans.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 Keep the ball down dusty . Just like that

It helps with grip and therefore control, which is a good thing. Its my understanding that it was believed that having foreign substances on the ball would create a bit of a knuckleball effect by creating turbulence around the ball but that this was categorically disproved in a wind tunnel. The single reason that these substances are illegal are for the so called mudballs.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 He's going to be suspended. so, how much starts will he miss one?
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 He's going to be suspended. Hopefully for a few starts. This isn't the first time he's done it blatantly, just the first time he's been ejected for it. All I know is that Gibbons should have the ump check him if he even has pit stains next time he pitches against the Jays.

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 Were our bullpen guys seriously reaching for that Lawrie HR ball with their bare hands???
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 Edwin and Lawrie seem to be heating up...now if we can get rasmus to start coming around we could have an offense top to bottom of our order.
