P2F Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 Absolutely. I like seeing a bunch of guys racking up hits, don't get me wrong. But the fact that we can also win games with pitching and defense? It's great. There was precious little of that sort of thing last year. Great point. It's nice to grind out a win (though via mostly good fortune) when the bats are absolutely ice f***ing cold.
over500 Verified Member Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 Damn, that was a boring ass game.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 down in Georgia for the week, going to the Master's... pissed me off tonight Fox Sports South spelled it McGowen the bastards
kgm1 Verified Member Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 Yeah Ken, it was great to see. It's not realistic to count on him for the entire season but if he keeps giving us starts like this one, take them while we can. I'm hoping for 20 starts (120 innings ) but we all know it could blow up anytime . With Dusty at 120 and you have to think they will hold Hutch to around 160 and who knows with Morrow you have to worry about who pitches in Sept . I 'm thinking of asking for ideas in a thread on this
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 McGowan is back. Cecil and Santos are . This team can't hit finesse pitchers.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 nice we won!! key takeaways? Good defense helps, bad defense hurts
Nabru Verified Member Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 Wasn't able to watch tonight. How hard was McGowan throwing?
Candy Maldonado Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 nice we won!! key takeaways? Goins needs to be sent down.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 Wasn't able to watch tonight. How hard was McGowan throwing? That's tougher to answer than you'd think, as we're all pretty sure that the gun at Camden was cold. According to said gun, he was throwing steadily around 89-91, and touched 94.
flafson Verified Member Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 McGowan did an amazing job by pitching everything down on the corners.
flafson Verified Member Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 McGowan's 2 starts: 13.50 ERA, 2.12 FIP, .615 BABIP 0.00 ERA, .221 BABIP, 6.33 xFIP So you're saying his 2nd start wasn't as good as it looked?
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 Goins needs to be sent down. once reyes is back. Izzy likely full time 2nd Base which is ok in my opinion considering his spring / start
shortstop Verified Member Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 can Diaz play 2nd? can be a late game sub for Izzy after they send Goins down...
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 can Diaz play 2nd? can be a late game sub for Izzy after they send Goins down... He can play any where on the infield plus as played OF before if need be.
shortstop Verified Member Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 He can play any where on the infield plus as played OF before if need be. thanks. imo, more difficult to watch goins at the plate than watching jpa last year, as hard as that was.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 If it wasn't for Jays' pitching, the team might be off to a 3-8 start...go figure!
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 thanks. imo, more difficult to watch goins at the plate than watching jpa last year, as hard as that was. JPA thought he was really good so I disagree.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 So who goes down or gets waived when Happ and Janssen get back? Wagner is 1 choice, but what about the 5th starter and long reliever situation with Happ, McGowan, Rogers and Redmond? It would be nice if a trade was made, but seems early for teams to be in trading mode.
shortstop Verified Member Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 my guess - wagner & Kratz go down for Happ & Janssen...Reyes comes back & goins down
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 my guess - wagner & Kratz go down for Happ & Janssen...Reyes comes back & goins down Eeew
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 Call up Schimpf positionally versatile + 70 grade power Wat
flafson Verified Member Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 I don't think they will send Goins down any time soon.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 Do we not have 30+ days to decide on Happ and Janssen ? If so I say we take them all and see what we have going now or at that time! Ultimately I would like AA to make a trade. Happ I let walk if it comes to that I see him as a cancer!
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
