G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 To quote AA there are lots of balls in the air Reyes, Janssen and Happ may come off DL over next week or two. There are too many catchers and MIF's on the big league squad Obviously some changes will be made. Tell us what you think SHOULD happen, and what you think WILL happen
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 To quote AA there are lots of balls in the air Reyes, Janssen and Happ may come off DL over next week or two. There are too many catchers and MIF's on the big league squad Obviously some changes will be made. Tell us what you think SHOULD happen, and what you think WILL happen What seems logical to me may not be right. With Reyes coming back obviously means the end to Goins or Diaz. With AA's comments that Goins could loose his spot and with the play of Diaz and Izzys bat I would think Goins is gone. Kratz has been solid since coming up but he is probably being sent down when Janssen comes back because he is not Dickey's personal catcher. Happ is going to be shot so he will never come back. But more than likely Redmond will be the odd man out when Happ is activated. Which I think Happ Should be outright released.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 9, 2014 Author Posted April 9, 2014 What I would do, unless someone's performance changes drastically or someone else gets injured: - Activate Janssen, but keep using Santos as closer - Assign Happ to AAA Buffalo, release him if he refuses - Activate Reyes and pray to the hamstring Gods - Option Goins to AAA Buffalo to work on hitting and reducing K rates, recognizing it probably won't happen. He or Kawasaki gets called back up if a MIG gets hurt again. - Keep Diaz on the team, and use a mix of Diaz and Izturis at 2B and maybe rest Reyes sometimes using Diaz at short - Option Sierra to Buffalo and call up the Gose. I don't know if he'll stick either but Sierra is useless and Gose has been getting on base nicely in Buffalo. Plus it would finally give us some speed off the bench. Also, unless Rasmus starts hitting Gose might get some starts. - Option Thole to Buffalo and tell Dickey that Kratz is here to stay and he might as well get used to it There. I feel better.

LOL Redmond out of options and no way we could get him through waivers though. He makes a great long man/swing man and I'd like to keep him. Again, trading a another reliever seemed a necessity this off season and didn't happen.

I'd rather see Happ cut, and if not then Rogers. Redmond's useful enough.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Janssen and Reyes call up; Goins and Kratz AAA Happ call up and Walden down (I forgot about Walden)

Agree, I actually think he should be starting, not sure how you guys and the rest of the board feels about him. I mean it's sink or swim time for McGowan so it's ok to give him a look but ultimately Redmond is a safer choice.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 - Walden goes down as soon as the 1st pitcher comes back (easiest move to make) - Kratz goes down as soon as the second one does - Goins goes down when Reyes comes back With Diaz capable of backing up the OF, I could see Sierre DFA'd in favour of Francisco as a 4th move.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 I think they will keep Diaz instead of Goins just because he can play CF as well. I would think about sending Esmil down for Happ. I'd send Sierra down as well.

This is the whole problem that AA has made for himself, by hoarding fringe BP guys with no options.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 How do we know that Diaz can play CF? His only experience in the OF is 4 games in LF in the minors.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Good call I forgot about Walden. Easy to forget. I don't think anyone expected him to stick around past the weekend. The main reason he's still here is that he hasn't make an appearance. If they had needed to go to the bullpen early, they would have burned and demoted him. It still could happen. It largely depends on how close the DL pitchers are to coming back. If they're close, there's no point in demoting him.

Send Janssen to Dunieden for a couple of rehab games and if OK then activate him , send Kratz to AAA ( I don't screw with Dickey just yet ) Send Happ to A ball for rehab assignment work him thru the system A then AA then AAA . I believe team has as much as 30 days rehab before making a decision and I use as much of that as needed . Activate Reyes , send Goins to AAA. Play the Hot hand at 2nd . I leave Gose at AAA for now . Let him continue to work on His hit tool for a couple more weeks then make the Sierra /Gose move . Investigate what Tampa wants for Sean Rod. Walden ?? FFS , Once the 10 days are up , Call up Kawasaki and punt his ass back down .

That helps buy time to see how McGowan and Morrow hold up. My Sierra/Gose flip idea can be done at any time obviously. But it feels inevitable.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Happ has an option so it doesn't matter. And if I'm wrong and he doesn't have an option, with his salary and skills package they can outright him.

That's the problem.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 9, 2014 Author Posted April 9, 2014 If he were only making 2M it would be easier to swallow. Someone else would sign him for 1M, cutting the Jays loss to 1M. His contract extension was dumb.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Hey hey, pitchers like Happ don't come by very often. You have to lock them up when you can.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Damn, I forgot about that. That's annoying. So it is worth using up the 30 day rehab period, then. Although I believe that if we try to option Happ and he refuses, he doesn't get released. We just have to keep him on the MLB roster.

But you still have to pay their salary. If another team then signs him for X dollars, you pay (contract salary - X)
