eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Like Gsnarls said, the Gose-for-Sierra move has to happen pretty soon. We have like no pinch running threat/OF defensive replacement at all on this team.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Well you can always release any player, any time you want. But you still have to pay their salary. If another team then signs him for X dollars, you pay (contract salary - X) So at best we save half a mill or does it become a bidding war type of deal for his services? We can trade him during his 30 day rehab period as well or not ?
xposbrad Verified Member Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 If he were only making 2M it would be easier to swallow. Someone else would sign him for 1M, cutting the Jays loss to 1M. His contract extension was dumb. I think the problem is, AA wanted Happ as a cheap #5 guy. Looking at his career numbers, they aren't awful. He's still a 40-42 lifetime pitcher, with a 4.25 era. The problem is, he hasn't pitched all that well with us. I also don't think he fits in on this club if we were really trying to be competitive. Maybe AA planned on trading young arms for a 2b? Who knows.

We can trade him during his 30 day rehab period as well or not ? Well here's the thing. If we release him we owe him 5.2M for this year and 200k (I think) to buy out his option for next year. So 5.4M. After we release him, there probably would be a few teams that would sign him on a 1 year deal. But they have no motivation to pay much (released players by definition tend to be desperate fringe guys), nor does Happ really care how much the new team pays him because we still have to pay the difference. Say the Rangers sign him. Whether they pay him 500k or 2.0M, it deosn't matter to him, he gets paid the same total amount either way. It's just a matter of how much of it the Jays pay vs how much the Rangers pay. And he JUST MIGHT want to f*** his old team over by signing for as little as he can. (no expert in the area, but I reserached this 2 years ago when I thought they should release Adam Lind. Which I'm glad they didn't LOL)

IBTrini Verified Member Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Can't do that either. Out of options. This is the whole problem that AA has made for himself, by hoarding fringe BP guys with no options. If they are fringe BP guys then there should be no sweating if they are released, not so? Also, I really don't see Sierra's contribution to the team so I would like him sent down. Get rid of Thole and just tell Dickey he will have to settle for Kratz so the sooner he gets his head wrapped around that the sooner things will settle down. I guess from my position I really don't have to worry about the consequences of hurting anyone's ego.

I'll shed no tears if we lose Sierra, same as I didn't when we designated Jeffress for assignment. (decision time must be nearing on him I suppose?) But Redmond I want to hang on to. He's better than fringe, he just can't be optioned.
CHRIS Verified Member Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 I just hope Hutch's next start is a good one. I'm half worried that if he has another dubious outing that he'll be sent down in favour of Happ.

If Morrow gets hurt or someone else stinks it up and gets demoted, I'd rather give the spot to Redmond.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 As soon as Janssen comes back I would send down Walden, which is an obvious move. For Reyes I would send down Goins and keep Diaz in the mix. As for Happ, not much we can do other than wait until someone hits the DL to activate him. I would also look to send down Thole for A power bat like Johnson and also swap Sierra for Gose. I would also consider bringing up Kawasaki over Diaz if he struggles.

Diaz gets on, but Goins, Rasmus, Lawrie and thole have more odds of winning our jays first HR contest than they do of getting on base.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 9, 2014 Author Posted April 9, 2014 Mets need a closer. Who else? Trade Janssen at the all star break if he's healthy. You can't have my Santos

Do they have to give a offer based on years of service like 5oo,ooo plus years of service? any idea what the lowest they can offer him?

League minimum for a major league contract is $500,000 so that's probably what he'd sign for. I can't see him accepting a minor league deal (where you can pay less)
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 9, 2014 Author Posted April 9, 2014 It's hard to swallow letting him walk and paying 5 million dollars You're probably better off better off trying to trade him and eating some salary.

True think a Happ for Scutaro deal of sorts or Happ for a bag a balls and we give money as well? Maybe for scutaro we throw in ituris and money as well ! My fear is a eight man pen, and a even weaker bench if he stays. Eat the salary might be our best option.

Once Happ comes off the DL we have 30 days . hopefully he is pitching well before then . Injuries happen and Happ is pretty good insurance even if redmond takes that spot and Happ moves into the BP . I just don't see releasing him at the end of the 30 days . Sierra is a different story , If we call up Gose then we don't need him and Fransisco would be a nice replacement BUT I think we need 2 infielders with Reyes,s Hammies .

But what if no injuries Happ en then what do you do? Plus we need bats that can hit left hand pitching neither F&G can do that for us! Gose can barely hit a fat naked chick in front of his dick! Lol
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Three way trade: Jays: Joc Pederson + Dustin Ackley Dodgers: Nick Franklin Mariners: Colby Rasmus + Moises Sierra + J.A. Happ + Small piece Platoon Gose and Pillar in CF until Super 2 Deadline and then Pederson up. Dee Gordon is hitting the ball as a motherf***er!!
