Chappy Community Moderator Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Good point. A 1.100 OPS season with 50HR looks great, but if he's on a 4th place team some writers won't vote for him. He needs a s*** ton of RBI's or he has no chance. Sad but true.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 He needs a s*** ton of RBI's or he has no chance. Sad but true. Yes it is. And he can rack 'em up if Reyes gets back and Melky keeps hitting. Unless Melky cleans the bases off with home runs too often. LOL
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 It FEELS like Bautista hits a disproportionate number of solo shots compared to other elite sluggers. True or not?

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 He needs batters in front of him to get on base. Well that's sort of my point. See two posts up. His RBI totals have suffered due to rarely having a good leadoff man and 2 hitter in front of him.

BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 But I feel he bats better with nobody on base too! Weird ! Lol Not sure this is true even.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 (edited) Nope, same split through his career: 126 wRC+ Bases empty 127 wRC+ Men on base Thanks JFaS ! Sorry not a stats nerd ! But why are you using a stat comparisons vs league average ? When looking at individual performance . Just asking! Edited April 8, 2014 by BigBounceyBlueBalls

NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 It feels like it because Jose hits a crazy number of dingers per PA. He probably has hit more solo shots than any player per PA over the past four seasons; that's what you're thinking of. But as JFaS notes, it's not disproportionate to his dingers with guys on base.

When looking at individual performance . Just asking! You have to evaluate everything contextually. If MLBers league-wide produce more efficiently with men on base, it's useful to account for that when considering Bautista's productivity profile. Bautista's swRC+ (split wRC+) for bases empty would be 126/127, or 99.2.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2014 Author Posted April 9, 2014 Was good He's. He's predicting that Bautista will win the MVP.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 A similar thought crossed my mind while I was reading it. Sounded like he was playing a part to get onto the Toronto team. Next thing you know Manny will be complimenting Anthopolous asking if he has lost weight recently.
