Sorry guys, I need to upgrade the server, memory usage is through the roof on gamedays.

Please be patient while I upgrade, sorry for the inconvenience.

 

Edit. We are switching servers. Doubling memory and switching to SSD hard drive.

Server costs are $500+/year.

Any amount would be appreciated. I'll probably start putting an ad up as well, though with 90% the same people everyday it probably won't bring in too much revenue.

In the past we have received donations from Gnarls (who should be getting paid not donating!), Ang (who should probably be the last person here donating) and an anonymous donator.

I am not begging, nor are you obligated, but if you want to help out, you're more than welcome to. If you don't have the extra money, please don't! I know a lot are in university/college.

But those sites take a fraction of the resources of this forum. Think about it, especially on game day, not just the number of people, but the number of times pages are being refreshed.

Guys in gameday threads, with refreshing and posting are probably viewing 500+ pages per game, each.

I still have to see if there is an error causing even more memory usage.

We have to transfer data to new server and wait for the domain to point to the new server, so probably 1-2 days.

The old server is doing some minor changes that will hopefully take care of the lag in the mean time.

I don't know how the vBulletin software works, but is there a way that you can statically cache the pages like every 15s to 30s and then only serve the cached pages? If each item (person, avatar, date, content, etc) all do database queries in real time, each refresh probably does 1000 queries.

PayPal is easy if you don't have a credit card, that's what I use to always use before I got one.

I'm going to look into that. I've done it for wordpress but never looked into vbulletin. It makes sense though. Probably not a big issue on a lot of forums, but a forum like this guys are refreshing 10x as much as other forums.

Trust me I'm one of the cheaper guys you'll meet lol.

But that's exactly what I did years ago when I first started getting into having my own server. I was paying $300/month for top of the line server for no reason. Now I try to do minimum and upgrade when needed.

We can downgrade if I find this error is using up the memory, but from the way it's been going so far, it looks like it can be some time before I find the root of the problem.

My bank account is under my parents control.... who don't like the idea of me having my bank account available to purchase stuff online lol
