Probably the only way to get positive value out of SS and 2B right now would be Diaz SS Izturis 2B vs. L, Goins SS Saki 2B vs. R.

 

when Reyes back Reyes SS, Diaz/Izturis 2B vs. L, Saki 2B vs. R.

 

That's a lot of middle infielders to carry. More realistically, Diaz at SS full time for now with Izturis, Goins platoon (Izturis everyday might be prefferable but the team doesn't seem to want to move Goins from 2B to SS and Izturis at SS is not an option). If Reyes comes back fully healthy and Izturis establishes that he's not the disaster he was last year, I think you could see both Diaz and Goins gone in favor of a Kawa/Izturis platoon at 2B. Kawa isn't great at SS but he's good enough to be the main backup if Reyes is healthy enough to play everyday and he should provide a solid platoon split and solid enough 2B defense.

Goins just has 1 hit this season guys in 23 plate appearances, and 22 at bats. That hit came in at bat #13.

But also, Goins is 1 for his last 22 at-bats (and 0 for his last 9 at-bats).

I'm not sure if anyone told you guys but in his last 22 at bats, Ryan Goins has only had one hit. The hit also happened to come 59% of his at bats ago.
