I wonder if there'll ever be a time people will want him traded. Or are we riding him out to retirement?

hard for them to bail on a guy the entire Rogers machine has pimped to the Canadian public for too long. he's been built up in the media as the messiah and I'm not sure how they could portray him as bad for the team without it being a black mark on the team.

If this team is way out of it at the deadline they better be trading some of these guys . Rasmus will be gone as he is an FA , Bautista if healthy gets value . Lots of BP pieces that should be dealt . Depends what AA gets for value . Eat some salary and Buehrle would be attractive to some teams .

Almost time for the new season to start and it's a good time to take a look at 2014. on almost every team there is a player that fans dont like. that person has been JPA for the jays over the last couple of years.

who will be the player fans will hate on this year? I'd put money on it being one of these five.

Sierra

Rasmus

Lind

Izturis

Goins

No it's usually someone who's either overpaid, overhyped, a jerk, or some combination of all three. For that reason I'm going with Jose Bautista.

I could see Lawrie drawing plenty of hate from the casual fans if he has another slow start.

For this board though, Sierra will be the guy if he runs into any significant playing time.

Good point. This board: Sierra. General fanbase Lawrie seems like a good candidate.

You're probably right. The last 3 heavily pimped players on the Jays I'd say were Delgado, Wells and Halladay. Delgado and Wells didn't continue because of money reasons one way or another (Jays didn't have enough money in '04/'05 offseason to sign Delgado IIRC and Wells's contract was too big) and Halladay decided to walk and go peruse a ring. So I can see him retiring here.

teams cant kill their poster boy. that's just bad media management. for better or worse they have to ride Bautista out. he's been sold as the leader and Rogers has spent millions in the publicity so they wont turn that into negative press.

You're mixing up message board hate with overall fanbase hate. The board consists of a small fraction of fans, all the more relaxed fans I knew actually liked Thames. JPA on the other hand was hated by everyone except blondes who don't actually watch baseball.

Yeah unless it's another Wells situation where he takes himself off for the 'good of the team' or the Halladay 'I want a ring' way. (although they seem pretty similar in my eyes)

dont forget Matt Harvey on the list of JPA lovers.

last year JPA had to fight with Bonifacio for hate last year. both were hyper arrogant for being so bad at their jobs.

If Jose stays healthy this year he is going to have a monster year. Melky looks like he is going to be a monster too.

this year there are a lot of guys who will be very likeable. it will all be based on how the team does. if they are winning, there wont be much to hate and the love fest will be on.

Lol at Jose being "overpaid".

If you're laughing at my post, you're funny and skip a bunch of words for the sake of it.

Never said he was overpaid. Said he was some combination of overpaid, overhyped, and a jerk. So he'd fall into the latter 2 categories more than anything. Overpaid, not so much of course. Goins falls into none of those categories even though he probably sucks, so he won't be a hated player.

Posted
Goins falls into overpaid and overhyped if he really is a 0 WAR player lol

Not to the general fanbase. I don't know why you're ignoring this... Goins is so irrelevant to the Jays that he can't really be a hated player unless they hit him 2nd for 40 games and he stinks. Considering he will hit 8th or 9th almost every game he's almost given himself a shell.

Fans don't give a sh*t if Goins provides 0 WAR instead of 0.3 or whatever. They care if Bautista is going to lead their O to a playoff berth. Come on, man. Goins is irrelevant.

I have a feeling that fans will turn on Morrow this year. Unless he can put everythig together, fans are going to be annoyed if he continues to have his meltdowns and/or misses significant time.

Tell Gruber that!

I think he means he's irrelevant because not much is expected of him except provide excellent defense, which he will. If he provides a. 240/.300 type bat hitting ninth, he will just be an excepted piece of the line up. The only way the masses go off on Goins is if he's hitting below 200.

It makes me so mad when fans at the RC boo Vernon. WTF??

He was good when he was here and was devastated when he was traded. Get a clue. Wasn't his fault JPR decided to overpay him. Was he supposed to turn it down and ask for less money??

R.A Dickey will be the most hated.

GUARANTEED.

That would be awful for two reasons. For one it would mean it's because he was pitching horribly. And two because he's such an amazing guy.

Yeah he seems to be a great guy which will make it worse. I just don't see him fooling too many hitters, combined with what it cost us to get him will be the fuel.

it's going to be filled with what? Strikeouts?

Poor AB's, base running blunders, errors... Yes I know he's the "2nd coming of Alomar", but since his D is already so overhyped, he can only go down from where he's at right now. He'll be good in the field, but not the greatest ever like many think.

After watching the gong show at 2nd base last year as long as Goins plays good defense I don't see how anyone can complain . The defense was the worst I have ever seen from a Jays infielder and as long as he hits over 200 his bat will be as good as we got from the clowns that played there last year .

The only player I will hate on is Navarro if he reverts to the lazy ways he played in Tampa and LA . If he plays like he did last year then I'm fine . Sure didn't look like he came to camp in shape ?

It's threads like this that give the "hive mind" lunatic rants about this board some credibility. Nobody but the most brainless of bandwagon jumpers who can't think for themselves would say that they hated JPA for the past two years - not until the final few months of the year when his s***** play and personality just became so intolerable. Up until then I think the majority of us hoped he would do well. And even in April 2013 we could have said he was tolerable with the strengths offsetting the weaknesses. 30 HR, .280 OBP and adequate defense and game calling with the occasional bravado on Twitter would have been acceptable. He could not comply with any of that and showed no willingness to improve, no admission of mistake or weakness AND mouthed off about how great he is. This is a rare combination which could illicit true hate.

FWIW, the guys who have the least likable personalities are probably the guys who are going to perform well - Bautista, Lawrie, Buelrhe - so they aren't going to get too much hate. Lind and Navarro might get some hate for laziness issues.

I disagree with this pretty strongly. I started hating him in April and was neutral before that. But I know people like NJH and BTS were pretty adamant about him being s*** for a while.
