Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 No doubt this is a showcase. He has zero chance of cracking this rotation out of spring. Hey, both Mike Wilner and Buck Martinez think Sanchez could be in the opening day rotation. Those guys are pretty knowledgable and have been around the sport a long time. Sanchez is ready for the bigs

ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 No doubt this is a showcase. He has zero chance of cracking this rotation out of spring. I'm also hoping it's because they want to work with him on improving his command although I think I'd want him as far away from Pete Walker as possible. Let the guy who worked with Norris last year work with Sanchez.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 Lol, I needed a good laugh. I know right? And these guys GET PAID for their s***** analyses/opinions.

jayswin11 Verified Member Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 By June he might be. But if that's the case we're obviously not in contention and no need to rush him.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 Yeah I was just kidding Ken. This team has deficiencies, but this lineup could be a top 3 lineup in MLB this year if we get lucky with health. The rotation has some upside with Hutch and Morrow if one or both can step it up, but it's just too many question marks. This team was/is a couple moves from being legitimate, but at this point we are likely looking at this team as is. Vik , no doubt we have holes , Hell huge ones if we aren't healthy but the emergence of Hutch and McGowan 3 innings has me more upbeat . Bench is slightly improved and even with the healthy issues of Casey the Bullpen is deep and strong with depth in AAA . I see a minor trade coming from this depth . The one issue bothering me is Happ , I thought he had options and could be sent down , now I learn he can't . A minor injury right now to Happ would be advantageous .
kgm1 Verified Member Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 In other words, it could get pretty bad in a hurry if one of those dominoes fall through.[/quote Sil , Even with the Shark we still have no positional depth . This team needs perfect or near perfect health to contend

Those guys are pretty knowledgable and have been around the sport a long time. Sanchez is ready for the bigs If you had listed to PTS tonight you would have heard Bob McCown lobby for Sanchez in the rotation for 20 minutes. Compared him to Dwight Gooden. So that makes it unanimous. Done deal.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 Nothing funny about it, there's a number of fans now thinking that Sanchez is the best option for the rotation...kind of sad really, lol. All part of the hype machine.

No way AA let's him go with his salary on the hook. I'm hoping McGowan cracks the rotation and we can extract any and all value from him.

As for Dustin , They are going to see how he feels today and then when he pitches again how he feels . That seems to be the deciding factor on whether they keep stretching him out . He has the most upside of everyone except Morrow . If Dusty can give us 30 starts and Morrow gets sorted out and gives 30 starts then this is a good rotation and you know what ,those two and this team deserves a little luck . I know it would be like winning the lottery but we are due some luck.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 I really don't want to see McGowan in the rotation. The stuff is sharp, but the guy doesn't have command of his pitches. I think he'd just gas can 5-6 games and then hit the DL. I trust Rogers and Redmond more than him. I agree, but the potential upside is good and Rogers and Redmond can still get their chance if AA does indeed go with a 13 man pitching staff.

I would be happy with 10 and some pen innings to be quite honest.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 I wonder if they've approached Happ about a DL stint to start the season. I probably wouldn't be amenable if I were him. It's in his best interest to try and get assigned to AAA so he can refuse and high-tail it to an NL park. No way they let him go with his salary on the hook. He is better off trying to get healthy and put a good season together, rather than thinking short term.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 All part of the hype machine. Yup, this topic is front and centre on SN's website and a few other sites. Anyway, I'm sure he'll be sent to minor league soon. Gibbons already said he's just at ML camp for experience.

They will put him in the BP before they do that even if they have to option Loup .

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 22, 2014 Author Posted March 22, 2014 Gun to my head today I think I go: Dickey Morrow Buehrle Hutch Rogers
SAAviour Verified Member Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 If McGowan makes the rotation and pitches well, and morrow pitches like he did a few years ago, and hutch pitches like he did before the injury...I might just have to get excited about this team again. Lots of if's but possible. Maybe I won't have to jump ship on AA just yet. Plus we'll have stroman and Sanchez knocking on the door, with Happ, and Redmond, and Rogers as depth which is pretty decent for #'s 6-8.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 I'm sure he would. I guess my point was that I don't think Happ will be willing to play ball by accepting a AAA assignment or phantom DL stint to work things out. I think he made this clear last year's ST....he's a BIG league pitcher!
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 22, 2014 Author Posted March 22, 2014 Same. Though the team could choose Redmond or McGowan instead of Rogers and I wouldn't complain. All three will be on the roster anyway. Where things will get interesting is if Happ gets a spot. We're probably looking at either a Jeffress DFA or Loup option if that happens. Happ is f***ing up the whole thing. He really is. They traded for him, are paying him too much money and he might cause trouble if they leave him out of the rotation. And at the same time, I don't think anyone thinks he's one of the 5 best starters in the organization. I soooo wish they could trade him away.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 22, 2014 Author Posted March 22, 2014 Happ for a PTBNL would be a brilliant move at this point. Save $5.4 million, unclutter the 25-man, and best of all - we wouldn't have to watch him pitch anymore. 5.2 That 6.7M option for 2015 is looking pretty iffy for him

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 22, 2014 Author Posted March 22, 2014 Does Jeffress even warrant a spot? f*** him. No. What good is throwing 100 goddam miles an hour if every batter knows he doesn't have to swing at it in order to get on base??
kgm1 Verified Member Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 I'm sure he would. Remember how arrogant he was last year when he thought he might be sent down . He stated he was a proven MLB starter so a BP stint may get him going .
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 22, 2014 Author Posted March 22, 2014 I'm just assuming the 200K buyout because let's be honest, Happ @ $6.7 is insane. Oh the buyout is that cheap? Yippee cay yeah.
Smedley Butler Verified Member Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 Gun to my head today I think I go: Dickey Morrow Buehrle Hutch Rogers That's my current rotation as displayed on my little personal 25-man as of about a week ago too.
