(CBS) – Although Jeff Samardzija was making his second-to-last spring training start Thursday in his preparation for Opening Day, his days as a Cub could be numbered. At least 15 scouts, and likely closer to 25, were on hand to watch the 29-year-old right-hander work against Seattle. The Toronto Blue Jays had three scouts in attendance, including their director of professional scouting, top scout and former Cubs general manager Ed Lynch. The Cubs and Samardjia are no closer to a deal on a long-term contract now than they were the last time they had substantive talks in December at the winter meetings in Orlando. Samardzija is working on a one-year deal that was reached just before going to arbitration. Edited March 20, 2014 by G-Snarls
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Link Lol, screwed up the title, didn't include the link. Mods are supposed to clean up other people's brain farts damn it!
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 20, 2014 Author Posted March 20, 2014 Possible this is one of the deals that AA knew he had the option to do the last few months and has been waiting to see if he has to?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 20, 2014 Author Posted March 20, 2014 Just a few more scouting reports from drunk old guys with radar guns should do it. You can't trust the mountains of major league data when it comes to making decisions on players. Yes. Sportsnet just released this shot of the Jays head scout in action: http://www.the-editing-room.com/img/Trouble-with-the-Curve-4.jpg

Could be. I think we need to keep our young pitching though, so I hope we don't do it. Once we get rid of the turf, we shouldn't have to overpay for bats. We'll never get FA pitching at face value, so we're better off developing it ourselves.

Bargain 1 year SP guys looking to build their value for future contracts don't want to pitch in the RC launching pad against the Yankees Red Sox Orioles and Rays all the time. ERA, HR and W-L records suffer.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 20, 2014 Author Posted March 20, 2014 My hope is that teams realize that park factors exist and that agents realize this. So the player doesn't care what park he plays in. Keep hoping. I guarantee most pitchers, especially during impending FA years care quite a lot.

Sportsnet just released this shot of the Jays head scout in action: http://www.the-editing-room.com/img/Trouble-with-the-Curve-4.jpg I haven't watched the movie, I got a feeling that it's a movie about a dinosaur, scouting players based on abilities to play the game the right way and possibly proving saber dogs wrong. Am I anywhere close?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 20, 2014 Author Posted March 20, 2014 You nailed it. It's unwatchable. I can handle most movies when Amy Adams in on screen
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 I can handle most movies when Amy Adams in on screen You must love American Hustle
flafson Verified Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 I actually enjoyed that movie. About this story, we know AA has 14mil to spend and it could also mean that AA knows we have a SP problem.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 20, 2014 Author Posted March 20, 2014 You must love American Hustle s*** haven't seen. Need to.
flafson Verified Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 You must love American Hustle That movie was so hard to watch, i stopped mid way. I never stop watching movies. Although, if it wasn't for her, i'd stop a lot earlier.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 20, 2014 Author Posted March 20, 2014 BTS calling for flafson's banning in 3.. 2.. 1..

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 20, 2014 Author Posted March 20, 2014 Guys if Shark and Tuiasosopo both end up on the team Buck will injure himself and have a stroke trying to pronounce them on the air
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 20, 2014 Author Posted March 20, 2014 It's that bad? It's cliche. And I thought Timberlake was bad in it. But I didn't mind it.
flafson Verified Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Why did you stop? Only reason I can think of was you couldn't understand them? Was very very boring.

You can't trust the mountains of major league data when it comes to making decisions on players. You would want a scout to have a look at him right now , make sure he throwing like he always has . Just makes sense when you have all these guys sitting around . Supposedly we have the most scouts so He might as well give them something to do .

You're right Though this IS the team that had the money set aside yet declined to sign Aroldis Chapman after watching one bullpen session
kgm1 Verified Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 You're right Though this IS the team that had the money set aside yet declined to sign Aroldis Chapman after watching one bullpen session Didn't they have the second best offer ?
8D Verified Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 They really love this guy. You know, I think it's pretty clear now the Jays only go for the guys they really believe in. The guys they think can really make a huge impact on the team. Learned from all the past mistakes with other players.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 20, 2014 Author Posted March 20, 2014 Didn't they have the second best offer ? Oh was that the deal? I must have mis interpreted a Beeston quote on the subject.

8D Verified Member Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 Exactly. Like Happ! Josh Johnson! Oh wait... "Learned from all the past mistakes with other players." And for the record, I really thought JJ was gonna be a monster with the Jays.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 21, 2014 Author Posted March 21, 2014 Yes. Beeston on Rogers support: When we need to go in the inetrnational market to sign a player. They signed off on (Aroldis) Chapman, OK. It was us that made the decision not to get Chapman. We didn't see him well in a workout, but they signed off on Chapman.

And for the record, I really thought JJ was gonna be a monster with the Jays. Oh yeah me too. I was absolutely shocked what a disaster he was. There were lots of fails last year but he was the biggest.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 Was very very boring. The first half isn't great, really picks up the second half.
BlueJaysGirl Verified Member Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 Good to know, I really want to see this. It's pretty good. A little cheesy and cliché, but what baseball movies not starring all young people aren't? When you watch it, imagine the bad assistant GM and any of the Jays scouts evaluating players for the draft with how Atlanta's first round pick is implied to turn out. Like the Braves would s*** the bed.
