G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 does it say something about me that Rickey, Bonds and Braun are among my favourite players of all time? There's nothing wrong with loving watching the "great" bad guy players in any sport I love Bonds 100%. And Lebron.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Ooh, good one Ovechkin is a great comparator in terms of personality And Mohammed Ali maybe Ali is problematic because Ali was socially aware whereas Ricky never left planet Rickey. Ali had the arrogance of Rickey but he had the social engagement of Delgado.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 I don't see what there is to like about Brauns personality. Unless you just like him for his on field performance which I could understand. Recently Braun declared himself an artist. Thought that was funny. This is my favorite thing I've ever tweeted:
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Bobby Keilty always rubbed me the wrong way I don't know why. Maybe it was a ginger effect.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Bobby Keilty always rubbed me the wrong way I don't know why. Maybe it was a ginger effect. Wow, I had pretty much forgotten of his existence. Didn't he end up injured for most of the season anyways? A lot of people hated him for hiting a liner that injured Halladay in a previous season (as if that was intentional).
Kelly Gruber Verified Member Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Canseco and Gruber. The royal family of douches. Arencibia doesn't even come close to those clowns. Thanks a lot!!

That was not Keilty that was Kevin Mench who was also a Blue Jays middle of the order hitter that sucked lol

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 That was not Keilty that was Kevin Mench who was also a Blue Jays middle of the order hitter that sucked lol Oh man... I really, really forgot who Keilty was.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 I will disagree on this. Ricky Henderson is everything good about baseball. I don't know about the man, but walks, power, great baserunning. I will say this Ricky walked leading off the 9th in game 6. That was the game right there. I've argued with Spanky about the Carter homerun... and I probably didn't explain myself that well. The homerun was thrilling. I agree. But the moment of victory was the Henderson walk. I was watching that night with my knuckle head hockey goon friends who don't know diddly about sabremetrics. As Henderson walked they appreciated his at bat, and proclaimed the game over. If you want to go that far the moment of victory was when Mitch Williams stepped out onto the mound against the top of the order of one of the best line-ups in all-time MLB history. Drawing a walk off of Mitch Williams is not a difficult feat.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Oh man... I really, really forgot who Keilty was. He was our Shannon Stewart Replacement
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 He was our Shannon Stewart Replacement Yeah I remember now. The assumption JPR made was that by acquiring him he was essentially setting the clock back on Stewart. Didn't work out that way.

bendera3 Verified Member Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Rickey Henderson is my favorite player of all time. I know he was cocky but there is something about a player who is so confident in himself that he can tell the opposing team that he's going to steal a base and can still pull it off. As for my least favorite player it has to be JPA. I can't think of another player who is so full of himself but contributes at historically bad levels.

Drawing a walk off of Mitch Williams is not a difficult feat. Fair enough point. He was somehow saving 30 games a year, and actually 43 in 1993, despite the walks. Was decent in the nlcs and saved game 2. Looking back it's obvious. But watching the game it wasn't until Henderson walked that we felt comfortable. But wow. Yes. Holy Crap. His statistics are bizzarre. Baseball's first 40-40 reliever, 40 saves, 40 walks. And 40 walks was a good year for him.

It just goes to show that saves are largely a product of your role not your ability. He wouldn't even get the role in today's baseball.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Greg Zaun deserves at least an honourable mention here. Guy has scanned cheques to drug dealer, Kirk Radomski, in the Mitchell Report but he waits months before saying anything and then comes up with the ridiculous excuse that he just gave signed cheques to Jason Grimsley with the recipient field blank. Nowadays he goes on TV and calls out cheaters like a total hypocrite. http://www.citynews.ca/2008/02/15/gregg-zaun-responds-to-steroid-allegations/111
leaffie Verified Member Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Miguel Batista , he spent too much time walking around trying to impress people with his intellect, and not enough pitching.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 And then we got Ted Lily for him. JPR definitely redeemed himself there. And then how Stewart became chronically injured it was actually a pretty good move in the grand scheme of things. But the treatment of Delgado...the dumping of Gonzalez...then the trading away of Quantrill for that Aussie pitching prospect that went nowhere...then Stewart. People were on edge because it looked like everything he did was for a salary dump. Then Godfrey decided that Vernon Wells was to be paid like a guaranteed Hall of Famer.
SAAviour Verified Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 For me it is kevin millar and it's not even close. f***ing Hate him. 'Cowboy up' slogan with the Red Sox makes me want to strangle someone every time I hear it. Then he comes here, probably the only jay I cheered to fail.

That's what I recall from doing no research on it and thinking back to when I was a 10 year old following baseball. That would be the only explanation for him giving up so many baserunners and having consistently low to permissible ERA year after year. Don't know of a data bank that tracks and shows pick offs to prove my point.
SAAviour Verified Member Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 I also loved Shawn green, until he bolted for the money which made me hate him....even though everyone bolts for the money. I think he just broke my heart so I chose to hate him. I don't understand how people can hate joe carter, I can see thinking he was bad and see how he can be annoying, but the home run has to erase some hate. One of the biggest home runs in baseball history!

I never knew Braun was Jewish until I got a look at this photo and he a spitting image of a pal of mine that's also Jewish. They could be twins even though they were born on opposite ends of the continent. Hmm I think Hitler was onto something!

Interesting...I think you're about to stumble into an argument with other posters on this board which leads Joe Carter stifling Shawn Green's career which led to the REAL reason for him wanting to be traded, with Cito Gaston being the conduit.
