G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Spam in the off-topic thread = catch up I could be drawing a blank here, but who was the reliever we traded (and for what)? Brad Lincoln for Kratz
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 When you think about it, it's not a bad return for a guy like Lincoln although it was with Amaro Jr. I think Cecil could get a similar or better return. I still think we see some trade action late in ST. Yeah, it was a great move actually. Made the Snider trade more sufferable.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 I absolutely love the Kratz deal. I really want to think that AA understands why it's so great.
BlueJaysGirl Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 If this is true, and Rosenthal has been gold, 1-year deal for $14M or so would be a no-brainer. He's a 2-3 WAR pitcher for us I reckon. In terms of Happ, I wonder if KC would like him with Hochevar down for the season with TJ surgery.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Another reason to sign Santana would be to give guys like Hutchison, Stroman and Nolin more time at AAA to continue to develop. Hutchison would be the 1st call-up, no doubt, but a month or so in AAA wouldn't hurt him and Happ/Rogers/Redmond as #5 is much better than Happ as #4 and one of the others as #5.

I doubt they'd have a ton of interest.

NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Well, we have a knack for being the mystery team... Definitely not KC. Quick list of possible teams: Angels, Mariners, Rangers, Indians, White Sox, Blue Jays, Yankees. If he's sticking by the "good offense" demand, you can probably eliminate the Mariners and White Sox.
flafson Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 We should open a poll, who thinks it's us and who thinks it's someone else like the Yankees.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 This is the original tweet. BlueJaysGirl Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 It's gotta' be the Jays, right? He's got a shwack of friends on the squad, DR friends, there has been mutual interest all winter, we suck at SP, etc.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Everyone on Twitter saying it's not the O's. Baltimore Orioles @Orioles_Nation7 2m BREAKING: Ervin Santana has reportedly agreed to a 1 year 14 mil deal with a mystery AL Team. #Orioles and #BlueJays remain favorites Delusional orioles fans lol. I'd figure the likely teams are Mariners, Blue Jays, and Yankees.

ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 hutch first call up based on what? 1st option to replace Happ at #5 although if they keep Rogers/Redmond as the long reliever/6th starter they may give one of them a shot, or even McGowan. I'm certainly all for giving Hutchison a month or more at AAA.
flafson Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 One guy is saying his sources are saying Mariners.

I'd figure the likely teams are Mariners, Blue Jays, and Yankees. I can't see it being the Yanks. I think they'd have gone for Drew over Santana. Plus Pineda looked amazing in his outing the other day, looked like a top 2 guy. So they have their pitching all set now. I'm leaning towards the Mariners or the Jays.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 I understand all of this, but if Rogers is hand-cuffing him, what's he supposed to do? I think the truth will come out now . If AA does not get Santana then he just has no money . Personally I don't like Santana in these small AL east Ball Parks but he is better than Happ .
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 s***, so he may sign today, just goes to show you, when you have a problem selling something, you're likely asking for too much. I doubt it's the Jays as AA is probably still having breakfast....if he's even awake.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 One guy is saying his sources are saying Mariners. I'm assuming you didn't check his bio lol.

BlueJaysGirl Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Jeezus GM_AA, sign this guy NOW! Is anyone else getting a tired finger from hitting F5? This would mean we DFA Redmond or Rogers, though, which is sort of disappointing. But I think AA would be trying hard to get rid of Happ at this point, so that's good.

Personally I don't like Santana in these small AL east Ball Parks but he is better than Happ . Right, but 14m, plus a loss of a 2nd rounder, for a possible 2 more wins, so we go from likely 78 to maybe 80 wins and still not make the playoffs? He's been a bit inconsistent and gives up a lot of hrs. It probably makes more sense to get a better slot for a draft pick then for a meaningless extra win or so, because at the end of the year, it still is a non playoff team even with him.
