+1 for that. Davis brought a lot to the table for a bench player. I think they're going to miss him this year. Sierra is not a good 4th OF option and Gose hasn't shown a whole lot IMO.

But let's be honest....we weren't matching 2 years and 10 million that the Tigers gave him. ( Plus more playing time in LF)

But let's be honest....we weren't matching 2 years and 10 million that the Tigers gave him. ( Plus more playing time in LF)

 

Yeah that's a lot for a 4th outfielder. It does go to show that he was a very useful player though. Defensively he was pretty underrated around here. But the reality the Jays are facing now is that not only do they not have a 4th OFer but they don't have any depth. Their offence looks nice if everyone stays healthy, but they literally have nobody who can step into an everyday role if someone gets hurt.

I don't even think it's prohibitive for a 4th OF. Davis impacts games late with his speed, can play all 3 OF positions at a close to average level, and can even DH against LHP. I wasn't on board for 2/10 at the time because I thought someone else would be brought in, but Davis at that salary makes the team better than it is right now.

However it's prohibitive when your paying the salaries of the likes of Buehrle and Reyes and you have corporate ownership and meh attendance.

That's a fair point you have to look at who he's replacing... in this case it's Sierra who probably shouldn't be in the majors.
