Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 ShiDavidi now #BlueJays claim RHP Liam Hendriks off waivers from #Orioles, designated INF Brent Morel for assignment
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted February 21, 2014 Author Posted February 21, 2014 Now O's will sign Ervin or Morales
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 This is the move we've all been waiting for. e: I actually don't hate it as far as depth moves go, he had some interesting periphs in the minors with nice K/BBs but was always old for the level and it certainly hasn't translated yet. Morel's a bum anyway, why not. Yeah, Hendriks at least has a chance to be useful, so this is a good move (even if it is pretty meh). I could actually see Hendriks be converted to relief. The few extra ticks on the fastball combined with a good curve could be pretty effective.

eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 I didn't even know Brent Morel was on the team. Useless player replaced by another useless playe.r

itaos Verified Member Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 AA must have been trying to bait the Orioles into signing Ubaldo so he could get his primary target - Liam Hendriks
Maine Jays Verified Member Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Now O's will sign Ervin or Morales And we can claim whomever they drop
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 So... I guess we found our #5 starter?
baconpancakes Verified Member Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 stockpiling the throw-aways . So this is our second most exciting move of the off season?
bendera3 Verified Member Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 This happens every year. AA claims a guy, then DFA him to claim someone else who then gets DFA a week later. He's probably just trying to sneak a few of these guys through to have at Buffalo. You know, so when the injury bug hits he can call them up and then DFA them again.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 So nobody knows if he has an option this year? Apparently he does.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 So nobody knows if he has an option this year? He's been DFA'd three times already this offseason, first by Minnesota, claimed by the cubs, the DFA'd and picked up by the O's, the DFA'd again and picked up by Toronto. Just wondering why AA didn't put in a claim for him when he was picked up by the Orioles since Toronto would have been lower in the claim chain. Why grab him now if you didn't want him then?

They probably got an early look at their 2nd and 3rd base options the last few days and decided they didn't need him.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2014 Author Posted February 22, 2014 Alex is smart. claim Hendriks, then make a QO for ~17M next year, Hendriks reject the offer and Jays get a draft pick

He doesn't want him now either. He's just trying to sneak Morel through.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 Yeah, I've been waiting for this for years now. It's such a tough project. I did about 30 hours of work and got through 3 40 man rosters...and it turns out that the rules changed and I was calculating some people incorrectly. For Hendriks it's easy though. He was added in September 2011. Used up an option in 2012 and his second in 2013. Has one remaining.
