If Drabek could only have a consistent approach to pitching he would turn it around. Not easy to do though.

Especially at this age and after missing so much time.

Pretty much. Every year we hear about how every hitter will hit 1.000, and every pitcher will post a 0.00 ERA. Same s***. This is an average ball club.

Same. Last year's team was the most unlikeable Jays team I've ever watched, and with minimal changes I just can't get excited for the season like I usually do.

Once the kids start coming up is when I'm gonna get excited.

I still think the jays sign a starter, but if they don't I would bet large sums of money that Redmond will not be in the rotation coming out of spring training.

IMO running Redmond out for a run every five days until June when Hutch & Stroman come up, and then they trade Redmond is the best course of action.

The team isn't winning or coming close to winning anything this year, so why not run him out there to get eyes on him and for him to be a useful piece to another team as a back-end SP.

I'd say Hutchinson, drabek, stroman and McGowan all have shots, although stroman perhaps less likely. I'd take any of the three over Redmond. Spring training results are going to matter for the back end of the rotation.

As much as I'm a fan of trying a guy out to start before moving them to the 'pen. It's time to utilize McGowan as a late inning RP and forget about using him as a SP. I can see him succeeding.....and then after a year or two, you trade him.

My opinion on Drabek has also slid for him to be a pen arm going forward.

I still don't understand why the Jays aren't selling high on their players and still pandering to the we need to have faces the fans recognize angle.

Drabek is 26....time to s*** or get off the pot. I don't want to see the guys in Buffalo throwing the ball better than the guys in Toronto...whoever is going to play the best makes the team...Redmond can go to the bullpen....the jays have to make some decisions and may lose a guy or two...but playing less talented players is no way to make the post season, which should be the goal. A team truly intent on winning shouldn't be concerned about losing a run of the mill guy like redomond.

To the fans with this thought process, please don't ever complain about depth.

If you believe this team has a shot at the post-season in 2014......you're one of those fans no matter who their fave team is, there's always a chance.......bwahahaha

As for the Jays, when you can't come close to financially contending with the big money players in baseball and the GM & President don't mind throwing big money around at assets not even close to what they're making, depth is f***ing crucial.

Can't sell 'em all, nor should you. Also consider the changing landscape of baseball and teams realizing how much value young players have, trades of key pieces don't quite get the same returns these days, unless you're trading with Alex or Dayton Moore.

AA couldn't even manage to procure a bat boy this year. He's waiting for the market to come to him. Free is too high a valuation.

Plus all the good bat boys want to sign with the Yankees Cardinals or A's anyway. We're screwed.

Morrow on the rotation early last year "We pitched like garbage. Starting pitchers were awful the first month, myself inclided". #bluejays

What do you honestly think you're getting back for Todd Redmond? He's a smoke and mirrors pitcher with a below average fastball and huge flyball tendencies. It's extremely unlikely that he duplicates the "success" he had last season if they throw him into a starter's role again.

While that's not exactly a lot of time, it's nice to see the exclusivity. Maybe Kratz makes the team and plays a significant role.

We can only hope.

Redmond isn't very good. He threw 70ish acceptable innings and suddenly he's solid as a rock. We can't put pressure on hutch, drabek, McGowan, romero or stroman though....we have to run Redmond out for a few months and him fail before we bring one of those guys in so that there isn't any pressure on them. Give me a break. Redmond is chin min wang.....we should be putting out the best arm from day one...every game matters and working through some things from day one will be best for whoever that arm is.

This team has zero shot....love it. Great post.

Stroman's career high IP is 111 and he has never pitched above Double-A. I don't see the upside in him starting the year as the 5th starter, especially since they don't have the "fear of PCL" excuse to justify promoting pitchers straight to the Majors from Double-A anymore. Let him finish with 150 minor league innings this year, or at least wait until June to promote him. He might be the best option out of ST, but that doesn't mean it makes sense from a development standpoint. Same goes for Hutchison (who lacked innings even before his Tommy John Surgery).

Go with a tandem rotation of Rogers, Redmond, and McGowan for two months (have the hottest pitcher pitch and use the others in the pen to back that pitcher up).

I'm not saying sell them all. But hanging on for too long is just lazy or stupid. As for moving Redmond, I would expect a prospect or two in the low minors with a little bit of upside who would take the place of a promotion to start weeding out organization guys in the higher levels.

Its a replenishing process.
