BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 How is it the agent's fault if shields' asking price doesn't fit the market? Greed, waiting to long, misread the market costing his client and ultimately himself money of a big or bigger payday!
Governator Community Moderator Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Doubt he goes for 60, otherwise Marlins/Red Sox and a bunch of others would be all over it. I don't think he gets less than 20m/yr, maybe 4/80. Everyone expected 20/yr for 5 years back in November... 4 months later and still no movement. The longer he waits out the more of a ding he'll have to take and I think the $110 offer he supposedly rejected was likely fabricated to sound aggressive. If he really wants the high AAV he may have to drop down to 3 years + option and start taking some serious offers. No one wants to pay 37 year old pitchers $20MM unless you're getting a Verlander during his prime.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Reimold back with Orioles, Lombardozzi out to Pittsburgh for cash. Why would they bring back Reimold?? And Lombardozzi's trade thins out Baltimore's minors depth..

He might have actually been a nice fit for us, especially for the price.

SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Between Pujols (2012-2014) and Hamilton (2013-2014) the Angels have paid a combined $85m for 10.8 WAR over 5 years. And both have been on the light side of their contracts so far. Those contracts which are already bad now are going to be just brutal soon. Thank God for those ridiculous contracts, otherwise one or both would be with an AL East team still providing positive WAR. #opinion

TheHurl Site Manager Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 How is it the agent's fault if shields' asking price doesn't fit the market? Because the rumour was he had a $100M offer. I doubt it's true but if he opens with 4 years $80M he probably gets it.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Would you do it at that price if you where the jays? I don't hate it...but I don't like it either. They are still depending on offensive health to be a Playoff team IMO. It also probably limits the trade deadline wiggle room (unless the crowds/hype is absolutely huge for the team at that time). The two available guys I would have made the move for have both been traded now (Zobrist and Valbuena), so I'd be more willing to now, rather than a month ago when they would have been my targets. So much depends on how hard of a cap they have (no mid season wiggle room sucks), and whether Shields has any desire to play here.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 ^ Good answer, thanks hurl !

admin Site Manager Posted February 4, 2015 Author Posted February 4, 2015 Didn't realize he was 33 already. I would do $20M per for four years in an instant. We're going to be the Yankees in a few years with our overpaid veterans, might as well try and get a World Series out of it.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Cuban players Moreira and Gutierrez defected yesterday in Caribbean Series held in Puerto Rico. 20 dollars by month apparently is not enough.

Talk about insult to injury if AA can't get it done and he ends up a Yank, it will be twice as bad if it's only a 3-4yr contract at less than 20M per.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Nick Cafardo @jonmorosi reported there are multiple teams making an offer to James Shields, but the Red Sox aren't one of them per major league source. AA offer: 2Ys/30M
flafson Verified Member Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 They are saying now Shields wants to play for a team out West. Didn't they say the same thing before Tanaka signed with the Yankees?
