Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Chris Cotillo #RedSox trade Anthony Ranaudo to #Rangers for Robbie Ross.
Hipfan Verified Member Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 So Steve Adams made a remark in his chat today (http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/01/mlbtr-live-chat-112.html) about Dalton Pompey's makeup, saying "have heard less than glowing things about [it]". Anyone know what this is referring too? It's news to me.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Chris Cotillo #RedSox trade Anthony Ranaudo to #Rangers for Robbie Ross. WTF? Guess Ranaudo's stock has fallen so much that they traded him for a reliever who has also fallen out of favour in Texas (he was the #4 prospect for the Red Sox, and was dominating AAA).. plus, it also gives them depth in Pawtucket, as Ross has options remaining. It could also mean Drake Britton is heading for a DFA or trade..
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Turf looks a little bit thicker than the old one.

He plays hard but he can get too down on himself which I guess means he goes into longer slumps? I don't know what that really means in the longrun.

But will he make the opening day roster, especially with Drake Britton out of options, and Brandon Workman likely getting a bullpen spot unless he wants to start(good lord no..)
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 One more note.. a DFA is coming on the O's, as the 40 man was full (likely Jimmy Paredes or Brian Matusz)
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 based on a brief reading of the scouting report, he's in the mould of Chris Capuano - 4th starter-type. Seems like it's a fair deal.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Wow seems O's get Snider for next to nothing Which is what Snider is basically worth. Outside of last season, his numbers were unimpressive, plus he's basically a platoon OF against right-handers with questionable defense in the OF, as Jays fans may remember.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 One of my friends went to HS with Stephen Tarpley. That's literally all I know about him.

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Random late night off topic thought: how the f*** did the 1979 Athletics win 54 games? They were pretty bad?
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Random late night off topic thought: how the f*** did the 1979 Athletics win 54 games? 79 wRC, negative baserunning and negative defense. Don't think we'll see a worse overall team again. I mean the late 70's Jays teams were horrible...but at least their D was league average. I think the A's might have been worst in the league in all three. And that was with Rickey Henderson on the team, okay he wasn't exactly Rickey yet. Made the playoffs just two years later though
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 They were pretty bad? No, they were historically bad. They were so bad that it should literally be regarded as legend. How did they even win 1 out of every 3 games? 79 wRC, negative baserunning and negative defense. Don't think we'll see a worse overall team again. It was Rickey's rookie season, and ended up being the only season of his life in which he was a below replacement level player.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 No, they were historically bad. They were so bad that it should literally be regarded as legend. How did they even win 1 out of every 3 games? Wasn't that discussed in Moneyball? That baseball is built that even the worst built team is going to beat the best teams occasionally as there are so many lucky factors within a single game.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 No, they were historically bad. They were so bad that it should literally be regarded as legend. How did they even win 1 out of every 3 games? IIRC, their win total is pretty close to the estimated win total of an entirely replacement level team.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 IIRC, their win total is pretty close to the estimated win total of an entirely replacement level team. Exactly. They were well below replacement level. -10 wins from the batters alone, not a single reliever over 0.3 wins (their best reliever was worse than Todd Redmond) and they had a total of 0 starting pitchers with an ERA of less than 4. It's probably the worst team of all time by a fair margin, and with a 54-108 record, they seem to have actually gotten fairly lucky.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 It's probably the worst team of all time by a fair margin, and with a 54-108 record, they seem to have actually gotten fairly lucky. As of March 2013, Baseball Reference has replacement level value win percentage at .294 which would correspong to a 48-114 record. So yeah they did alright for a below replacement level team. http://www.baseball-reference.com/about/war_explained.shtml
