It appears, then, that Haren is unlikely to pitch for the Marlins in 2015, although Frisaro notes that it’s still unclear whether Haren will retire. The Dodgers traded Haren to Miami last month in the Dee Gordon / Andrew Heaney deal (and agreed to pay his salary for the coming season) despite Haren’s preference to play in Southern California. The Angels, however, have said they’re not interested in trading for Haren. Frisaro writes that Haren’s preference is to pitch “out West” and for a team that has Spring Training in Arizona, noting that the only West division team that doesn’t is the Astros. What a mess.

Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Showalter To Meet With Colby Rasmus Saturday By Charlie Wilmoth [January 3, 2015 at 12:25pm CST] Orioles manager Buck Showalter will meet with free agent Colby Rasmus today, Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun writes. MASNsports.com’s Roch Kubatko reported earlier this week that Showalter would speak to Rasmus about the Orioles’ interest in him. The Orioles, contenders who play in a good ballpark, should have no problem attracting players and are not recruiting Rasmus, Connolly writes. Instead, Showalter wants to see whether Rasmus, who has at times had issues with coaches, would be a good fit for the O’s. (He had similar discussions with Nelson Cruz, Delmon Young and Alfredo Aceves before those players were acquired, Kubatko notes.) According to Kubatko, Baltimore believes that Rasmus might sign for one year and between $5MM and $8MM, giving the talented outfielder a chance to build his value before hitting the free agent market next season at age 29. I found this interesting, I didn't know the O's worked like this.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 $5-$8M? That's dirt cheap for a year of Colby. For that price nice bench bat, fourth outfielder! No ?
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 $5-$8M? That's dirt cheap for a year of Colby. I would love it if they signed Colby, the Jays should know his flaws by now. Can't throw, doesn't steal bases, can't hit a breaking ball. GG.
Guest Verified Member Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 You may be forgetting that he put up a beastly 4.8 WAR in 458PAs in 2013. Heck 8 million for only a year is worth the risk.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Yup but we have two hitting coaches maybe one can fix redneck Gump ! Lol
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Colby is actually a very good baserunner, even without SB. Agreed ! Colby doesn't steal bases but doesn't run into a lot of outs either. Can go first to third or home better then some we have on this team or have had in recent years !
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Colby is actually a very good baserunner, even without SB. Fair I guess, but it's not really that hard to run the bases competently. I know the jays have had a lot of idiots on the bases in recent years. But for the most parts, major league players can run the bases well especially if you have no intentions of stealing (Rasmus).

BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Yup, oh well next man up!
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Smoak OBP with home park Safeco has been almost identical to Rasmus OBP with home park RC Good chance Smoak moving to RC > Rasmus at the plate We won't miss Rasmus defence or baserunning with Pompey in CF Colby not coming back, and we don't need him anyway
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 I think Smoak might be good for us, above his norms produced to date!

And a not so beastly 0.6 WAR in 376 plate appearances last season. 1.0 War in 625 plate appearances in 2012. Add to that his off-field issues and I wouldn't want him anywhere near the team for even half that 8M.
