The AL East is still the strongest division, as it was last year.

Yankees weaker than they've been in the past = "AL East sucks" to many.

Looks like Buster's been in the whiskey all Sat night.

He's beyond hopeless

So a division with the Rockies, Padres, and D-Backs is ranked higher than Brewers-Cards-Pirates-nuCubs and the five non-terrible teams of the AL East? I wouldn't even rank them higher than the AL West. The only division that's clearly as s***** is the NL East.

There's no real super division this year. Lots of parity.

Just wait until the Yankees sign Scherzer and everyone will be saying they had the best offseason and the AL East just keeps getting tougher etc.

but is Scherzer enough for them to take the "Offseason Champions 2k14" crown from the White Sox?

That's a fair point, he doesn't offer enough vetrin presents or weening ateetude.

Who cares about the best offseason, We had the best in 2012 and where did that get us. Most believe we would have a better team today had we not made those 2 deals (Mets and Marlins)

I like Gammons. He's old and he doesn't know how to twitter but he's smart, a good journalist, and his articles are excellent.

Is it just me or is his actual writing kind of poor?

He needs a better editor on his website, that's for sure. But generally speaking I like how he writes, the way it reads. It's like somebody who knows a lot is just talking to you about a topic.

From the time the Red Sox grabbed Miller after he rode shotgun down the avalanche in Florida, the pitcher and the then-assistant general manager struck a meaningful relationship. Cherington is academic in his thoughtfulness, an Amherst man who one sometimes could be his Pulitzer Prize-winning poet and Dartmouth professor grandfather Richard Eberhart. Miller is humorous, sincere and with the thoughts of a guy who rolled up 1561 on his SATs.

I also really like how he rolls little factoids like that into his pieces.

He's just a good story-teller I think and the odd grammatical trip up doesn't really bug me.

Lots of baseball writers and pundits can churn out a textbook story about a transaction but most of the time they don't have any flavour. That's why I'll read something by Lott or Griffin from time to time but I'll pretty much never click on a Shi Dividi link.

Lots of commentary and kind of a drawn out style of writing but yeah, I do enjoy how he rolls up info like that.

I swear Davdi use to be good, I would read him all the time but I haven't read anything of his ( minus tweets) in a couple of years.

If only there was a perfect image on the internet to reflect this statement...

Perhaps a collection of images compiled into some brief picture file... a bif? a spif? If only...

I agree. Jon Heyman is barely literate, so I'd say Gammons' issue is the editor.

These are nice little anecdotal pieces but that excerpt is just clunky. I don't think I could read any extended pieces by Gammons if that's representative of his output. I question any editor that lets sentences like those get published, but I wouldn't be surprised if Gammons' clout just earns him a free pass. I imagine a young copy editor wouldn't have enough sway to insist that Gammons' sentences roll about as well as a square wheel.
