Chappy Community Moderator Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Its not going to be a horrible rotation, but I don't see it as that great. Combined with their lineup, they are shaping up real good this winter.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Really like the Red Sox moves. Unless the Jays get a 2B and another starter looks like they will be the favourites.

Sorrow Verified Member Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 I mentioned it in the Winter Meetings thread but it's worth talking about. Latos traded to Miami for DeScalfani and Wallach. Seems a pretty poor return.

Seems fair to me when you include salary.

Right now it's 1) Sox 2) Jays 3) Orioles 4) Yankees 5) Rays They are both areas that the team could get a decent upgrade. SP would allow Sanchez to go to the bullpen and help 2 areas while outside a player who has never played above AA the Jays have garbage at 2B.
xposbrad Verified Member Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Combined with their lineup, they are shaping up real good this winter. Ya, at the deadline they can always trade for a front end starter depending how things shape up. They don't have too many holes at this point. Even the Jays could use a starter, among a 2b, and a closer, and another reliever. Red Sox have enough trade chips to easily get a #1/#2 during the year if they feel they need to. Top to bottom the Sox are pretty solid hitting, and a solid pen, and a very decent rotation.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Boston needs someone for the top of their rotation. If they land Scherzer or Shields, they looks pretty legit: Scherzer Miley Porcello Buccholz Masterson That's plenty of rotation for what should be an elite lineup.

I will be shocked if Scherzer is not back with the Tigers.

Right now it's 1) Sox 2) Jays 3) Orioles 4) Yankees 5) Rays Unless Boston gets an ace pitcher (unlikely now), they're looking at .500 at best. Remember, they traded Cespedes away, depleting some of their offense. Wade Miley and Rick Porcello aren't cutting it in the pitching staff.. they really needed to resign Jon Lester.

If they land Scherzer or Shields, they looks pretty legit: Scherzer Miley Porcello Buccholz Masterson That's plenty of rotation for what should be an elite lineup. You forgot Joe Kelly. And Boston isn't paying $200M for Scherzer.. nor overpaying for Shields, as with the Porcello and Miley deals, they are nearing their payroll limit for 2015. It indicates that Boston will not pay $20M+ for a pitcher, unless it was Jon Lester. When they said they would go over the tax, they likely only meant if it was for Jon Lester, based on these moves. At least Mookie Betts now has a place to play in either CF or RF, unless Cherington decides to give JBJ another chance to fail offensively, even while playing Gold Glove defense.

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 The guy lost nearly 3mph on his FB and sinker ... he's cooked. Yes. We've seen certain sinkerballers (Webb, Wang, etc.) break down badly in the past to serious injuries and never return the same pitcher, or in Webb's case, didn't return at all.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 We don't know why Webb broke down, but it's some scary s***. Guy was on a Hall of Fame pace. I really liked Brandon Webb - great pitcher! It's unfortunate his career ended early.

Welp, comeback season officially confirmed for Masterson now.
