Well Rays list of managerial candidates are Kevin Cash, Raul Ibanez and Don Wakumatsu. Really surprised Dave Martinez didn't make the list. Also surprised Wak is on the list as I remember him being awful for the Jays.

Now this could be a decision that makes the Rays slide down to mediocrity. Managers don't matter much but I have a hard time believing Ibanez or Wak would make good in game decisions.

Wakamatsu was awful in Seattle. That would be a terrible hiring IMO.

Edit: Although maybe he has learned a thing or two since then?

Ibanez a finalist?!?! LMAO

it's a nice piece of strategy. anyone following Maddon will be looked at as a failure and wont last long. why waste a proper manager when you can go into the "real" list in a year when they are looking again.

being "the guy" after "the God" is a certain death.... lol worst job available in baseball this year.

He was also terrible with the Jays when he had to manage for brief stints.

Bring on Saunders, Votto, and Taillon!

George Kottaras or Mike Nickeas for back up C

Jeff Francis in the pen

A major league source indicated the Red Sox’ five-year, $95 million offer may be in the lead over Sandoval’s San Francisco Giants and the San Diego Padres.

Good news for the Jays!

Vernon Wells spotted at the ACC watching the Raptors destroy the Bucks.

Possible signing? ^_^

Oh and Joey Votto is there too..

Well, V-Dub needs to find work.. his 8-year contract finally expired after this past season. No more free money from the Angels and Yankees, who were paying the remainder of that AWFUL deal.

WAY too much money for a guy who has weight issues, hasn't hit 20 HR since 2011, has peripherals moving the wrong way (career-worst .739 OPS last season), and is better suited for the NL than the AL East. Not to mention that the Red Sox aren't close to contention, and would be repeating the same mistakes trying to do a quick fix like they made in 2011.. and this time, the Dodgers aren't bailing them out, as they no longer have the payroll flexibility to take Boston's bad contracts like in 2012.

I like Smoak. Very much okay with him as the starting 1B/DH.

Could you please elaborate? I'm very interested to hear your take on him.

Redsox have a 5 year offer 95 million for Sandavol.

I hope he takes it. I'd like to see that big body play defence when he's in his 30 's. Not to mention, I think 19 mil a season is a big overpayment for him. I hope the Jays don't throw those kind of numbers his way

Not sure where to post this, so I thought here. NJH, JFAS, how accurate are defensive WAR numbers from back in the day? (on Fangraphs) I'm a big Ted Williams fan (the numbers, and him generally being a badass), but his defensive numbers are not good. That being said, he still holds a 130.4 career WAR. I got me thinking about what that number actually represents. Does anyone know how they are calculated for historical players?

I believe there are calculated from Total Zone. Don't know anything about how reliable these numbers are though.
