kgm1 Verified Member Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Meh, Burnett was still pretty darn good with the Pirates in 2012. Remember he had Martin as a catcher with the Yankees in 2011 and he was pretty bad. I think he'll be fine with the Pirates again - he looked really comfortable there. I think it is more about Searage. Guy must be the best in the game right now. Turned around a lot of careers. I expect AJ to have a good year.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Some pretty juicy stuff in this story about Boras trying to cover up Manny's drug test in 09. http://www.thescore.com/mlb/news/630575 Can we possibly hope this comes back to bite Boras . If MLB proved this couldn't he be banned
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 Is there a limit to how much you can pay on a minor league contact? If you sign a player to a minor league contact with a invite to spring training scenario ? Let's use Kawasaki as a example can I sign him to a 2 million dollar contact with Buffalo with a invite to spring training if he doesn't make the team does he have to play for Buffalo or would he be free to leave? Or would that be in the wording of the agreement?
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 Another question would the Gaints do a Scutaro for Izturis Swap ? Save them 3 mill, costs us 3 mill, both were injuried last year!
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 AJ Burnett 8.5M deal? JA Happ's money. Burnett turned down a 12.75 million dollar player option to play in Philly, so it's not like he was going play for the Jays for 8.5 mil. He took 4 million dollars less to play with the pirates. What does that say about the Phillies. It kind of got me thinking. If Buehrle had the option, how much less would he take to play somewhere else? Would he take 5 mil less to play somewhere else?

He was thinking retirement when he had to leave his dogs. He'd prob take a bigger cut then 5 mil to be out of Canada.

Trade him to another team contingent on him renegotiating for a 1 year 12 mil deal....you would be able to get something back for buehrle at 1 year 12 mil.

BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 Bench bat mostly, more posisitional back up,depth move! Plus better on the bench to mentor Lawrie and Goins and the youth then Izturis! Plus I like him at 6 mill more then izturis at 3 mill Better role model and leader too in the club house provided he does more then draw on baseballs. Would you rather have izturis stepping in late in game or Scutaro to win it?
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 That 13 year deal is atrocious for professional sports. Its virtually borrowing from tomorrow to pay for today, I like Stanton, but if he is getting that then what will the best player in baseball Trout get, $500 Million. Where does it stop?
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 Spit ball'in one here, would the Rockies look at Smoak, dickey and platoon partner and money for Morneau?
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 The players association would never go for that. Do they have the power to block it? Stupid if they do

BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Worse thing in sports for me is the " No Trade List " it's is utter ******** ! Punishes the team that has the player and the team that wants them. I would abolish it or limit it to only say 3-4 teams max. If a player wants more he pays a fine of 100,000 Dollars per team added above that number to the team and the teams added to the list above 3-4. First 3-4 to receive 100,000 as well no comp for home team. Competitive balance money! Take a stand with the players in the next talks, either or take that or no guaranteed contracts which you think the greedy bastards gonna keep! Lol
xposbrad Verified Member Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Ok so the Jays are talking to Ramirez, Martin, Sandoval, they were talking to Vmart. They won't talk to any good cubans, those cost money and there's too much risk along with the potential for upside (something that jays are against). They rather pay for old and consistent for short term and take the risk of decline vs spending for high upside/unknown. The question is, when will the Jays actually do something relevant? Signing Martin is useless without an outfielder AND a 2b because they still won't make the playoffs.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Holy Debbie Downer! Lol
xposbrad Verified Member Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Holy Debbie Downer! Lol hah ya, you don't know how frustrating it is to go from following a team that was limited in payroll but developed some of the best players in the majors just to lose them year after year. To now a team that is so mismanaged that regardless of payroll they still can't make the playoffs in 20+ years. That's not fair to a fan like myself.

I don't think so. The Braves only added ~800K and Moncada will cost around 75-85 millions (Signing bonus + penalty)

The Braves only added ~800K and Moncada will cost around 75-85 millions (Signing bonus + penalty) Could be the equivalent to a cash deal though. They go over their spending but the penalty is lower. La Stella is a back up with options for the Cubs. Not really a need but certainly doesn't hurt them either.

That money will be inverted in Dominican Republic and/or Venezuela.
