Real interested to see the types of moves that he makes, as he'll be under a lot more pressure and scrutiny in that environment.

Sucks that we still have AA and Friedman was willing to listen on offers. We just missed the boat on one of the best and young GMs in the game.

Meh, he got arguably the most lucrative job in the game. It's not really as if we could have beat the Dodgers' offer anyway.

In the header of that article he's the GM as well, like North said same title as AA I believe.

Interesting. So what exactly is happening there? Colletti failed upward into a higher advisory role, and Friedman technically is the president and GM, but has the option to hire someone else as the GM if he wants? It almost sounds like the Dodgers made up a new position for Friedman to get around a no lateral move policy or something...

$5 billion for NHL rights and Rogers couldn't match LA's offer? I call ********.

They just don't care about winning. AA is a nice puppet/yes-man who produces just enough mediocrity to skate by, and that's good enough for them. We could reach 40 years without making the playoffs and Rogers wouldn't care as long as suckers continue to buy merchandise/tickets and drink the Kool-Aid every year.

Why would anyone choose Toronto over the Dodgers? Unless Friedman is a Jays fan, Canadian, or wanted to leave one toxic management group for another for his own amusement, I'd imagine it would have taken way more money to get him to come here.

BTS is Friedman's biggest fan, so there's a reason why he'd choose Toronto :) BTS is writing a long personal letter to Friedman as we speak.

I think allowing him to hire a GM is like the equivalent of hiring an assistant GM in this case, someone who he trusts or has worked with before, it's all just fancy titles.

AA and Beeston are the reason people avoid Toronto... presumably Friedman would be replacing them. Otherwise, I don't see the problem with Toronto. Believe it or not, it's not the third-world shitdump the Jays and their sycophants portray it to be whenever free agency rolls around and they need an excuse.

Because Toronto doesn't really need a new GM right now? At least they don't have a ton of payroll stuck between multiple outfielders like the Dodgers do (Crawford, Ethier, Kemp), with Joc Pederson blocked and Puig playing out of position in CF.

Besides, Coletti was going to be fired anyway. And the Dodgers are hoping he can do the same magic for them, especially with their payroll set to decrease this offseason to offset big losses from their TV deal, which will likely require a trade of their OFs..

The Jays should start singing god save the queen during the 7th inning stretch.

That would be awesome just for the reactions from everyone in the States. Totally fair though.

I read that 5 mins ago and I'm still shocked. What a great dude.

I love this story, too. Just a feel good baseball story. If I was a KC fan, I'd live This guy forever.

Apparently the Braves are targeting GMDM for their GM vacancy:

"John Hart turned down the offer to be the Atlanta Braves' general manager, prompting the team to focus on current assistant GM John Coppolella and Kansas City Royals GM Dayton Moore as its top two targets, sources told Yahoo Sports on Tuesday."

Jays re-sign Jonathan Diaz to a minor league contract, with an invite to Spring Training.

The ninja is back.

I wonder what John Hart was thinking? It seems like a pretty good gig with some solid pieces already in place.

Os expected to boost payroll:

http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/orioles/bs-sp-orioles-next-season-1018-20141017-story.html#page=1

Unfortunately, most of it is arb raises..so it'll be difficult for them to upgrade, and in fact, they may be worse, especially if Cruz leaves. And there's still the MASN issue threatening to cut some of the O's source of TV revenue if Washington gets a favorable ruling.. which seems likely, considering the Nats have jacked up payroll significantly in recent years ($137M last season)

The O's should only be better, if they can get full seasons out of Weiters and Machado, and a marginal bounce back from Davis. The kids gloves will be off Gausman too.

2015 is a contract year for Davis correct?

Plus a full year from Bundy

Hard to see him being a big MLB contributor in 2015 after missing all of 2013 and only throwing 41 innings this year.

Would the nats do a swap of Zimmerman, span and laroche and money !

For Lind Reyes and Gose!

Would this work for both teams?

I could see why the Nats would do it. They get to downgrade at Centerfielder, lose a legit front line starter and take on Reyes' contract.
