jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 How incompetent can the Mariners offense be?? Getting shut out by mediocre(excluding Chen) Orioles pitching! And this team was leading the 2nd wild card?
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Cleveland Indians, another team chasing us, is tied 1-1 in the 14th.. they wasted a great Corey Kluber start.
comeon sense Verified Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Delmon Young with a 3-run blast. 4-0 O's. Looks like the Jays will be in the postseason mix by night's end, but still trailing the O's by 3(and so will the Yankees). Meanwhile, Boston will be probably starting the auction on several of their veterans, especially after the Rays slaughter them this weekend. Both the Orioles, and Rays are due for a cooling off period, and we are due for a heating up period. I suspect we will have a "good problem",meaning, what to do with all the callups who are playing well.....at home.

intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 We've won 5 out of the last 6. This is our heating up period. Getting our three missing regulars back is when the team will need to get hot, I think. Right now, Reyes, Cabrera, Bautista, and the Bisons are beating up on bad teams. Which, don't get me wrong, is exactly what they should do and they deserve big props for it, but I still a final push will hinge on having a full-ish lineup. I mean, I'm missing our three sluggers so much that I'm willing to endure Goins' bat everyday once everyone's back and so Gibby can stop compromising defence for any kind of offensive power (this also raises the question of Gose vs Rasmus too).

Agree with all this Winning 5/6 was huge and a confidence booster. We need those guys back, but good job hanging in there in the meantime this past week
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 It's a given how much we need Edwin and Lind, but I still can't wait for Reimold to be back. Didn't get to see enough of him when he was here, still think he can be something special for this club.

We didn't get to see enough to know. BTW is he under control past this season for us or is he a FA? Edit: Looks like he's arb-3 next year and shouldn't cost too much I wouldn't think. He only got 1M each year arb-1 and 2. Free agent after 2015. Edited July 25, 2014 by G-Snarls

Which I'd be fine with if he didn't have this horrendous health/DL history I'd be 100% fine with a healthy Reimold, Gose, Bautista and Cabrera next year. I like that foursome's complementary abilities a LOT.

SP depends on Hutch and Sanchez and Nolin and Morrow. BP yes though depends on Delabar and Rogers a bit too
shortstop Verified Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 yeah, that's a solid 4 some...and Gose covers ALOT of field out there making the overall outfield D better especially with 2 corner OF's in their 30's... what's the cost? - $1.2M, $0.8M, $14M and $10-$14M = $26-$30M for the outfield

o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Yep NOTHING wrong with that (unless Remold misses 150 games due to injury LOL) I'd bet on Reimold missing more than half the season, but I dont think the odds would be very good. probably 3 to 2 odds that he misses more than 82 games..... lol
shortstop Verified Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 be interesting in the off-season if this team can compete/make the playoffs & most likely the team won't be blown up... melk - what to do cecil - arb eligible - making $1.3m this year Francisco - making $1.35M - arb eligible - what to do Happ - $5.2M now; $6.7M club option - what to do casey - making $4M - resign & how much? morrow - $8M current; $10M club option - whether picked up Colby - currently $7M; resign or walk Santos - current $3.75M; buyout b/w Happ, Morrow, Colby, Santos - that's about $22M of payroll (about $1.75M for buyouts) that could be used elsewhere...ie. say $4m more for Melk, bit more for Cecil & Casey, bit more for Juan if that's the route AA goes...plus bunch of arb players...still plenty left over for a solid player and then 2015, Buehrle's $19M comes off, Romero's $7.5M, Dickey club option, Navarro $5M... there is plenty of light moving forward imo so long as the jays can legitimately compete for a playoff spot & play meaningful baseball in September

Reimold is not a 4th OF. He's either a 5th OF and part time DH or he's a low cost (and somewhat high risk) alternative to Melky in LF with a better defender in place behind him.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 I don't really want to extend Melky for what he'd get. I'd rather extend Rasmus on the cheap cause let's face it, he's not getting a lot.
