Just asking because Michael Taylor cleared waivers at one point but AA was still commited to Sierra at the time. I think I'd rather have Taylor over Mastroianni but whether either is actually good enough to fill a need is highly debattable. I wish AA would do something soon.

As long as it doesn't involve trading guys like Hutch, Sanchez, or Stroman. Attracting any kind of FA pitcher to Toronto is nearly impossible unless we overpay like crazy, so we had better develop them ourselves.

I actually preferred Sierra. Yeah he was s*** when he was with us this year but he's not THAT bad. He had a good quick bat to foul off pitches last year too.

For the record I'm absolutely fine with filling our 4th OF/ RHB DH platoon mate via the waiver wire. I'm happy we got Reimold.

But that infield requires a more significant upgrade/investment

Well trading Hutch or Stroman would set you back as much as it sets your forward so that's definitely out. Sanchez alone probably won't land you enough to address all the team's holes but if you get someone with a bit of control left, It could work out. The team should do something before they lose all the surplus value they get from EE and Bautista. Someone who improves your chances both this year and next would be ideal as a return for Sanchez. Someone with an expriring contract would probably just go to waste. Someone with an extra year might also go to waste too but the team's going to suck post Bautista/Encarnacion regardless of whether they keep Sanchez or not. The opportunity to just go for it probably won't come around for awhile and the squandered opportunity to win now is going to hurt. Having Sanchez around won't heal that.

The biggest problem with Sierra is that because he was out of options, AA didn't want to risk losing him to waivers by putting a better player in front of him. The fact that he ended up letting him go anyways looks really bad on AA and his roster management this off-season. Is Sierra worse than the scrubs the Jays are using now? Maybe not. The real issue is not getting a real option in the off-season just to protect him.

exactly

3 decent OF's - Melk, Rasmus, Bautista - one goes down, there's a backup...

team needs 4 decent IF's so that if 1 goes down, there's only a need for 1 replacement...with Lawrie out, there's a need for 2 everyday replacements...

Since June 1st-

Orioles: 22-13

Rays: 18-18

Yankees: 16-18

Blue Jays: 14-20

Red Sox: 13-21

Orioles have to come back down to earth and we will start wining some games. Right???

Schedule will get easier after LA.. although Tampa's playing better. But will they keep it up? After the break, we've got a terrible Rangers team and a struggling Red Sox team. Of course, we need to start scoring more. As for the O's, they head out west after the break.

With Wacha and Kelly already out...

Tim Cooney sucking ass in AAA after almost making the team out of spring training and starting strong to add to the things going wrong.

Yankees losing 5-3 with Tanaka starting. Not a good thing.. are they trying, along with the Jays, to hand Baltimore the division and get Tampa back in the race?

Red Sox down 6-3 in the 9th. THE Mookie Betts has not been a saviour for Boston, going 0-4, and showing he needs to go back to AAA with his .174 AVG.

The good thing is he hasn't been overmatched as he's only striking out 8.3% of the time.

True, but all those hits he could get in AA and AAA are usually outs in the majors with better defenses and pitching both in the infield and outfield.

LOL @ those who picked the Red Sox to win 90+ games.

This Red Sox team was 54-37 last year at this time! How do you manage to lose 15 games in the standings, and are on pace for a 20-game regression from 2013, which would put them at 75-80 wins. Don't be surprised if Cherington and Farrell are joining Gibbons and possibly AA(IF they keep losing) on the unemployment line at the end of the season for this.

Boston media is not taking this well.. and Cherington still thinks it's not time to sell yet, when most Boston fans know it's time for the Sox to start dealing pending free agents (Peavy, Uehara, Lester, AJ, Drew, etc.)

Here's Cherington's delusion.. does anyone think he's almost as bad as AA?

This has been quite the three season swing for the Red Sox.

When you are a major-league baseball team trying to compete and contend and remain in any division or wild card race, there should be a simple rule when it comes to filling in for your injured players. Major leaguers play. Minor leaguers, your fill-ins, sit.

Prior to Game 1 of this series against the Angels, Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said that he would have two platoons moving forward. Colby Rasmus and Darin Mastroianni in centre field and Adam Lind and Cole Gillespie at DH. If I was an opposing manager and heard that, I would pitch left-handers all the time, because two major-league hitters are sitting it out.

They sucked in 2012, won in 2013, and suck now. That's three seasons of serious swinging.

BTW Vidal Nuno threw a gem yesterday after being traded from the Yankees

7 ip, 3 hits, 7 K's and 1 BB

all on 91 pitches

Very SSS but it at least makes you wonder if the Yankees gave up more than we thought they did.

Not sure who makes the decisions but the A's could end up in either Montreal or San Antonio

No, actually. I don't know who wrote that article you posted, but they must be living under a rock in a cave somewhere.

Unless something that was reported as a done-deal somehow fell apart, the A's already finalized their 10-year extension.

That's not a done deal. It still needs to be approved by the county and city.

The Orioles post All-Star stretch is pretty brutal; a ten game road trip against Oakland, the Angels, and Seattle, followed by home games against the Angels and M's, before what hopefully is an important series in Toronto.

The Jays have to hold their heads above water by the break. Two games back or less.

Did you read any of it? 2nd paragraph... "The deal still needs to be formally approved by the Oakland City Council and Alameda County Board of Supervisors later this month." This is not a 100% sure thing. I read a couple places that the council was divided on their vote.

Mike Trout's first 46 PAs in the majors: .163 BA, .213 OBP and .279 SLG (.492 OPS). 3 BBs and 10 Ks. 1 SB.

Obviously this tells us Mike Trout and Mookie Betts are comparable.

Mike trout maybe the greatest baseball player of our generation

He is not comparable

I know Moogy is quite the contrarian but he obviously wasn't being serious. Whatever you may think of Mookie, Trout is a generational talent. It's just not reasonable to expect another player like that for well... another generation. Even Moogy wouldn't try to argue otherwise.
