The question is, would Texas want MLB talent or prospects??

I don't believe he's available but if he were I would think a combo of both

If they fall completely out of contention, and if Gallo continues to beast in AA they should move him if they can get a good return

From what I know about defensive stats though, Lawrie at 2B and Beltre at 3B does take a lot away on defense compared to Lawrie 3B and Utley 2B. If Utley is willing, I'd still go that route and keep Lawrie at 3B.

Here are the 3B that could be available (teams out of contention)

-Beltre (possible)

-Wright (huge contract, + team captain = seems unlikely)

-Longoria (within division, impossible)

-Headley (POS)

-Dominguez (meh)

-Plouffe (ok bat, bad defender)

Do people not realize that the defensive stats back up what we can see with our eyes, which is that Lawrie is way more valuable at 3B defensively? We should still be looking for a 2B, but everyone seems pretty set on his needing to shift Lawrie.

I saw Lawrie's defensive stats at 2B on Fangraphs the other day, and he's actually in the negative... My question is, how is that possible? He's made some ridiculous plays there too, and hasn't had any trouble turning a DP. Granted he's better at 3B, but I don't see how he's cost us defensively at 2B.

No one can argue against Lawrie having more value at 3B than at 2B. But Lawrie has shown that he can play 2B, which keeps our options open.

If we can't find a 2B that suits our needs, then it's best that we keep an option open on acquiring a 3B.

There really aren't a whole lot of appealing options either for 2B. The ones I'd look at are Dozier and Murphy, but I lean towards the latter.

I don't know how it's calculated on the backend, but do you think Lawrie starting as a 3B, and then moving into right field for the shift would affect the metrics?

It shouldn't

UZR just consioders whether play was makeable, no matter where you start from

And WAR removed put outs from shift plays a year or two ago

Actually it did, I remember a couple years back when lawrie almost broke drs. They made an adjustment to the metrics for that very reason.

Yeah I remember the article too. "Does Brett Lawrie break WAR" I think it was called.

Doesn't hurt for a guy like him to pitch in that ballpark. I still don't understand how he had that K rate in the minors with us despite not touching higher than 90.

Oakland is building a who's who of former Blue Jays farmhands...

Would not be shocked if Mills is the new Jesse Chavez.

Esmil Rogers can be the next Chavez. He has the stuff to do it.

Grady Sizemore's comeback is over. Red Sox DFAd him in favour of Garin Cecchini, who will back up at 3B with Brock Holt/Jackie Bradley Jr. playing CF.

Max Scherzer is absolutely getting obliterated vs. the Royals.

2.0 IP, 7 H, 7 ER, 1 BB, 2K..

Lol, Royals streaking.

I know the Jays are struggling right now, but at least they're still pitching decently!

Look at the collapse of the Detroit Tigers! 12-18 in their last 30, Verlander's been garbage.. and now they've fallen out of 1st place after the Royals defeated them tonight.

Jeff Jones(pitching coach) and Mick Billmeyer (bullpen coach) are likely going to be fired soon, possibly this week if the Tigers lose 3 of 4 or get swept by the Royals.

Apparently Kirk Gibson asked a Dback pitcher to hit Braun. Once the pitcher did, Gibson fist pumped and the whole dug out cheered. The pitcher was tossed and the whole team met him at the dug out steps and proceeded to high five him.

Lucroy hit a grand slam with the next pitch of the game.

Apparently ESPN's Texas Rangers writer died? He wrote three articles today, must be something tragic. Very sad if true.

So sad. RIP.

Bad night overall last night

Lost to NYY and Orioles and Red Sux won

Gotta win tonight. Go Jays.

Well whatever, it's not like the Yankees have any more Tanakas. The next two guys are just fill-in starters.

Yeah but this offense has averaged 2 runs a game the last 2 weeks. Need to win the next 2 IMO.

Need to.start scoring runs

Our pitching has been quite decent. We should be winning more games. offense needs to calm down and regroup.
