GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 There is no way that that isn't out of context. There is no way someone mistakenly transcribed that without the surrounding context. Please f***ing tell me that this isn't real. I mean, it's cool knowing how to do things that an MLB GM doesn't know, but BASIC f***ING MATH ISN'T WHAT I HAD IN MIND
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 There are no walks in Ruben Amaro's baseball world. Only guys who drive the ball.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 I just saw the full play of that Cespedes throw to home. The GIF doesn't show the whole play. It's worth noting that the runner was only going home because Cespedes misplayed the ball in left to begin with Takes nothing away from the excellent throw itself but the runner should have been held at third
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 Just watched a highlight reel of his best throws of the seasonn. Damn but he's got a cannon for an arm.

8D Verified Member Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 How the hell did RAJ get that job? How did Gillick let him take over after him? It should also be partly his responsiblity for allowing him to ruin the potential dynasty he created. I've seen some pretty bad bankers who were clearly grandfathered/grandmothered into their positions (and clearly they would be unemployed otherwise), but this is at the highest level of professional sports and GM is a position at the top of the food chain. How does this still go unnoticed in 2014? Truly unf***ingbelieveable. Scientists claim dinosaurs were extinct long ago... but clearly there are a new type of dinosaurs still breeding.
shortstop Verified Member Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 didn't see the video till now...what a throw.... see the umps? that was great - 3rd base ump ran down the line, home plate ump running to 3rd & 1st base ump covered home in time...great all around...
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 (edited) Any chance Gallo gets a callup in September this year? He's 20 years old and seems likely to jump AAA. Also, on a related note... Are the Rangers going to keep him at 3B, and if so... What would they want in exchange for Adrian Beltre??? He's 35, but still excellent, and would fit will for us second half 2014 and in 2015. Also, Rangers are pretty much screwed for this season due to injuries. Little chance of playoffs. Might make sense to trade him. I have to admit I have fapped to the thought of an infield of 1B - Encarnacion 2B - Lawrie SS - Reyes 3B - Beltre Would there be a better infield in the AL? However, could you explain to me the dynasty comment 'cause I don't see how they had a dynasty going.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 Agreed on RAJ. However, could you explain to me the dynasty comment 'cause I don't see how they had a dynasty going. I think they were close to one They had a killer starting rotation. Had they done the smart thing and gradually turned over stars like Utley and Rollins and others for youth, and drafted better, they could have had some sustained success. Instead they got one WS and a couple of playoff fail years. And now all those stars are old and overpaid.

Trading Utley and Rollins for youth is legit, but how young would those players have been and would they have actually panned out as you should know that not all prospects pan out. Drafting better applies to all organizations and they were drafting in late in rounds.

Grantland piece on Rangers prospect Joey Gallo and how unique he is. http://grantland.com/features/joey-gallo-texas-rangers-fascinating-prospect/ Worst part about it is that I can't even be upset that the Rangers have him. I was begging for the Jays to draft him with the pick that ultimately resulted in Smoral (which I was very happy with at the time), but Gallo got drafted 11 selections earlier. I was kinda hoping that Tellez would end up being the redemption for Gallo not dropping far enough, have yet to see anything come of that.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 I REALLY wanted Gallo that draft. When we didn't get him someone in a JaysJournal chat told me to get off the ledge lol Wanted Fried, Giolito, Gallo from that draft. Wanted Fernandez (I thought he'd be a good 2/3... lol), Gray and Cron from 2011. Hindsight hurts sometimes lol.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 Yep, I was praying that Giolito fell to us, biggest kick in the nuts ever when he got picked right before the Jays' selection. I wanted Gallo, as well, but I would have thought it was a reach in the first round. Can't say I'm unhappy with getting Stroman instead though. I've always really disliked the Davis pick.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 Yeah, I never wanted Davis. I would've liked Seager, but I wasn't heartbroken at the time. At the time, lol. MyMLBDraft has StroShow's name spelled as Stromen lol
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 White Sox (not jays) acquired OF Michael Taylor from the Athletics in exchange for RHP Jake Sanchez
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 The other Michael Taylor is tearing up AA
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 White Sox (not jays) acquired OF Michael Taylor from the Athletics in exchange for RHP Jake Sanchez I remember being super pissed (along with a lot of others) when we dealt Taylor for Wallace. Taylor just looked like a superstar. What a bust.

Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 It goes to show even the cardinals can miss in the draft when they drafted Wallace 13th overall

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 Wallace never was a good prospect. He was a great pick at the time by the Cardinals for his ability to hit and tremendous plate discipline. For whatever reason his plate discipline disappeared and he suddenly became a one-dimensional player. And that one-dimension gradually disappeared in AA/AAA and now he's a scrub in the Baltimore system.

He could cover the balls on the outer half and slash them the other way, but even average mlb fastballs on the inner half, he could do nothing with them unless he sold out his swing, and by doing that he became very vulnerable to offspeed stuff. Just couldn't make the needed adjustments.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 Good news for the Jays.. A's lead 2-0 after 2, as Sogard hit a 2-run single off a wild Hiroki Kuroda(he's thrown two balls over A's hitters heads tonight). Donaldson's still struggling.. who's going to break their slump first, EE or Donaldson?
