"All cylinders" ...

Ortiz is banged up

Pedroia is doubly banged up, struggling this year, and was tossed from today's game

They had to rely on a guy (quality prospect but spinning his wheels in AAA after a fast start) making his MLB debut to replace Pedroia

Their LF today was a guy (an underappreciated guy due to his OBP skills, but nonetheless) who was making his MLB debut and struggling in AAA this year.

Everyone in their lineup is basically hurt, a back-up or a AAA guy (Holt, Gomes, Ross, Herrera, JBJ)

Basically, they were pushing a beat up clunker with no gas, two blown wheels and no steering wheel into the station ... and they still beat the Rayspists there.

The Rayspists are in bad, bad shape.

I really like Holt, good find by them.

The wild card really is a long shot. You have to win that one game and then play the best team in your league. It's a tough go.

Did anyone else not know that Moises Sierra is playing regularly for the ChiSox?

Yankees, Red Sox, and Rays all playing tonight. If the Yankees lose it will give the jays a nice 4 game lead. Hoping the Red Sox streak ends today as well, but iI will be happy if just the Yankees lose.

So apparently streaks mean nothing. Red Sox lose 10 in a row, go on to win 7+ in a row.

Did you even look at the standings? Yes the Jays are 3.5 games ahead and if the Yankees lose they will be 4 games ahead.

For some reason thought that post was from yesterday.

At least they face Felix. It will be a tough game for them and 4 games back is a pretty good cushion.

Its not really the cushion that it appears to be,

But the Yankees are not that good this year. Could be very tight near the end

At least we have intra-divisional games to be thankful for. Red Sox play the Orioles next week. It's harder than it seems to gain ground in the standings.

The good thing is that when the Red Sox were loosing we were winning. A rivals loosing streak means nothing if we don't capitalize on them. Now they got top hope for us to go on a bad run so they can catch up.

Papi Vs David Price

Last year after Papi's dingers against Price (Phone cal)

Papi: "David, You must learn to lose, do not be mad"

Price: "Excuse me Ortiz, I did it alone in the heat of the game"

Papi: "Are we good?"

Price: "Yes, were good"

Last sunday

Papi: "In the game you have to also teach the others that you has a pair of balls"

Papi: "That is bush ... I put the gloves and will be war."

Papi: "Price is the most controlled southpaw of MLB ... I don't think he missed a target; that HBP was intentional."

Drew Fairservice of theScore tweeted a comparison similar to this (I added Lawrie), makes you think: http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=3b&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=0&type=1&season=2014&month=10&season1=2014&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=11493,4892,5247

All of those doubles Manny Machado hit in the first half of last year seems to cloud the public perception of him. Mike Moustakas is an unmitigated disaster, and yet... Machado's yet to prove that he's a good MLB hitter. Similar to Lawrie (to a more extreme extent) though, the defensive ability depresses the urgency for offensive contributions.

People always get on Bautista for base running mistakes but when your trying to always be agressive and heads up your going to make bad gambles or mistakes at times. Bautista is always thinking about making an extra play. Most of the time it actually works out but when it doesn't he looks bad. We should all be pretty pumped that we have a player of Bautista's talent playing the way he does. Its a treat for me.

Love Bautista and the way he plays. His occasional over aggressiveness on the basepaths is laughably offset by his ridiculous OBP, huge power and arm/cannon. Also (poke fun if you wish) people around the team say he has legit leadership chops, and has helped bridge the gap between the English and Spanish speaking players on the team.

Yeah, people in fantasy overrate the f*** out of Machado. He's a league average bat. Also, expanding Fairservice's report back to 2012:

http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=3b&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=0&type=1&season=2014&month=0&season1=2012&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=11493,4892,5247

Lawrie has been one percent of the league offense behind Machado, on a BABIP nearly 20 points lower, with better peripherals, better baserunning, and similar power.

Wow, didn't think I'd see Lawrie head-and-shoulders above both the guys I most often compare him to, and in literally every facet of the game no less.

Same here

wRC+ 99 vs 78/75 for Machado/Moustakas

Lawrie actually IS a league average bat. I don't think most of us realized that.

What I learned today on the ESPN Franchise Player Draft:

Machado > Cespedes > Miggy > McCutchen > Stanton > Cano > Verlander > Pedroia > Kemp > Tulo > Braun > Shelby Miller > Strasburg > Segura > Wieters > Goldschmidt > Buchholz > Puig > AJax > Sale > Zunino > Fernandez

So yeah, Machado and Cespedes over Miggy, McCutchen, Stanton, and Verlander over Tulo/Braun, Shelby over Strasburg, Segura and Wieters over Goldschmidt, Buchholz over Puig, AJax over Sale, and Zunino over Fernandez.

-Teheran 30th (can't find any picks behind it but Strasburg hadn't been chosen yet so there you go)

Probably the first time that Justin Upton didn't get picked.

Doug Glanville (Perez) took Wilson Ramos in 2011 and Wieters in 2012. What are you doing, man. Sure, catchers are important, but so are superstars.

In the 2013 one, someone was vouching for Yadier as the #1 overall pick. "1 player to make 5 others better" yeah uh no
