G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Extensive update on Rangers injuries: http://www.sportsinjuryalert.com/2014/04/rangers-injury-updates-part-1-jurickson.html#.U2JG8PldWyU
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Geovany Soto Soto went down to injury just after Profar. His problem was a torn meniscus. He's also been slow to recover as it's an injury that hampers a catcher. Dave Sessions updates his status: "Catcher Geovany Soto (torn meniscus, right knee) is still in a brace for another week or two, but remains on schedule to return in June, Levine said." The Rangers are desperate for Soto to return. The catching position has been a complete disaster. J.P. Arencibia struggled at the plate, putting up a woeful .094 (3-for-32) average. He lost the job to Robinson Chirinos, who has been better at the plate but still not great, hitting .232 with a pair of home runs & seven RBI. They won't rush Soto back but they will be quietly celebrating once he's ready. Last season, Soto hit .440 in the month of September & the Rangers are hoping he can return to All-Star form at the plate.

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Tillman is struggling vs. the Pirates so far.. Gaby Sanchez just had a 13 pitch at bat, and Tillman has thrown 36 pitches in the first inning. Luckily, the Pirates can't score.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Tillman still hasn't got out of the 1st inning..he's walked 2 runs in already. Something must be wrong with him, especially considering he threw 49 pitches! Baltimore's bullpen is going to be gassed by the time they reach Minnesota tomorrow.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 There are so very few good all-around catchers these days. Lots of decent ones, but almost all have a major flaw or two. (or 5 in the case of Arencibia)
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Is he for sure? I've always heard very mixed reviews. + 1.6 runs so far this season. Exactly the same number as Yan Gomes. This team doesn't value (or doesn't know how to value) catcher defense.

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Heading into the weekend series, the AL East remains garbage.. Yankees -13 O's -1 Blue Jays -2 Rays -10 Red Sox -14 Only 5 teams in the AL have positive differentials, in Oakland (+59), L.A. Angels (+40) Detroit (+9.. but they've had a lot of rainouts), K.C. (+5), Chicago (+4). And former darling Texas is regressing, at -21. Good thing they have Prince Fielder and Shin Shoo-Choo to hit a lot.. oh wait. All the good teams are in the NL, mostly the NL East(last place Miami is .500!) and West.

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 There's some scuttlebutt the Marlins are stealing signs at home, massive OPS splits and the best home record. Apparently the Braves were throwing up multiple signs with the bases empty. http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2...sweep-in-miami/ The man in white is such a dirty whore.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Not sure if this was posted but it's Buehrle on the length of games You see guys get in the batter's box," Buehrle said. "They listen to their song for 20 minutes. They don't swing the bat and they have to step out and tighten their batting gloves and do their stuff. I don't like sitting on the bench for a four-hour game when I'm not pitching, I'll tell you that much. When you're sitting there in between your start, looking at the scoreboard, looking at the clock, saying, 'Holy [expletive], this is ridiculous.' I know how fans feel."
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Did you guys see Gomez robbed Votto of a homer. Priceless lol

I get the feeling Buehrle actually doesn't like pitching and just views it as a job I recall another famous pitcher saying a few years ago he's actually not a fan of baseball. I think it was Greinke? Can't remember.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Also the marniers have so much good young pitching its ridiculous. Roenis Elias just craved up the Yankees. Trade Pineda three more studs come up.

They were limiting his innings due to concerns about workload increase and wanting him in the majors the 2nd half of the season, so this probably makes it just about right for him to be brought up once his DL stint ends.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Yup Just install a 3 batter rule any pitcher coming into a game must pitch to a minimum of 3 batters unless injured on a play! tweak it if you like to not include the 9th inning of games only.
