G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 Wow Worley has fallen off He looked so good with the Phils 2 years ago
flafson Verified Member Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 In 2013 he had .401 BABIP against him in 48.2 innings. Is it really such a bad bet to claim him?
kgm1 Verified Member Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 I wonder if the Tigers would take one of Janssen, Santos or Delabar, with Izturis and Sierra for Porcello. Tigers have absolutely NO rotation depth NONE , They can't trade a starter especially with Sanchez,s shoulder issues . I still can't believe they gave away Fister .

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 It is a mess in Detroit. Look at their depth chart after Verlander, Scherzer, Sanchez, Smyly and Porcello: LHP Kyle Lobstein LHP Casey Crosby RHP Drew VerHagen RHP Warwick Saupold LHP Robbie Ray And that's the AAA team..
GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 Be careful there. His bad xFIP and FIP does not give an explanation for his bad BABIP. There is essentially no correlation between the two. He was a bad pitcher who got unlucky on top of it. That's not what I was insinuating, although I see how the wording can suggest that. I was using his DIPS as a proxy for his skill (bad pitcher), and meant that since he's a bad pitcher he might have gotten hit harder leading to a higher BABIP. High LD%s. Obviously there probably isn't anyone with a true talent .401 BABIP, but I was more suggesting that as a bad pitcher who's getting hit hard, having a high BABIP isn't /entirely/ luck.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 This was probably discussed already (I haven't been around as much lately). George Springer turned down a 7 year $23M contract. Good effort by the Astros to Longo him in.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 I was never a believer in Vance Worley.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 Too bad that they were only going to call him up if he signed it, almost extorting him lol If he understands the business of baseball he'd know that. He's not completely crazy to turn it down...but that's a lot of guaranteed money and not having to worry about arbitration.

That's a lot of guaranteed money to turn down that early in someone's career. I mean, he'll earn 500K in his PreArb years and then ARB years who knows depending on he performs. One year of free agency would be bought. If I were Springer, I'd counter with $30 million, and he could still land a huge contract afterwards he becomes a FA if he's as good as advertised. $30 M sets him up for life guaranteed this early without playing a MLB game, and his next big FA contract will be icing on the cake.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 Ugh, tomorrow's 4 AM start time is such a buzzkill. I'm itching to watch the game, but 4-7 is absolutely brutal. Who else is watching on this board? I can make a GDT and actually watch too haha. is MLB network playing the game?

fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 I won't be watching. I'm planning on going in to the office tomorrow, and staying up all night will f*** my whole weekend up. I really want to watch though. I guess game #2 will suffice. I'm going to PVR it, watch it tomorrow morning Well crap :/. I'm still going to watch it, (teenage years>>>>>>>>>>>> ) hope a lot of other people can make the date too! Sucks for you guys though :/
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 It would be great if mlb.tv had a way to view a game after it aired without seeing the score. You can get someone to email you the direct link to the MLB.tv rerun without going through MLB.com, that way you can cover the screen as it's loading and you won't know the score!!

Sounds like a trick that was mastered through years of trying to keep the naked ladies covered when the parents are around.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 I'll try and wake up to watch the game early. Starbucks opens at 5 AM, so I could grab a coffee afterwards and then go back to sleep at 7 am when the game is over.

fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 Are you going to GDT this bitch? 2 games tomorrow! 4 AM ET and 9 PM ET (i think its 9, might be 10 ET) What you think I've been doing for the past half hour xD! Are you watching??
Chappy Community Moderator Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 I just wake up at 4 AM to watch porn. Makes sense,
Chappy Community Moderator Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 I wonder why they didn't just go with a couple of 1:00 PM local games. 10:00 PM ET is at least doable for their North American audience. I guess they just don't care. Probably just want the exposure and anything else is bonus.
