Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 I'm all for buying low on talented youngsters and adding a 'bench bat,' but Jesus Montero hasn't hit since 2010 (which is longer ago than you think -- three full seasons have passed) and really doesn't have a position. He can't catch. If you think about it, Montero would be like a rich man's Arencibia, the rich obviously in the potential with the bat.

Arencibia is much better defensively. Montero is a fairy tale (or nightmare) for teams right now. He's the new Brandon Wood except he can't play the field.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Little bit, but still useable Getting loooooooots of timeout errors and the like. Was going through a bunch of profiles so I just said f*** it and opened like 20 tabs while I could still use it lol.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 That looks like one of those really bad before and after pictures..with the after having a fresh tan..good lighting, nice camera angle, the person doesnt look grumpy as s***
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Who is Nate Karns? Traded from Nationals to Rays. Edit: 25 year old relief pitcher with 12 big league innings under his belt. Decent minor league stats though.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Nice arm for the Rays. It didn't come cheap though. Lobaton was useful for them. 100 games and 2 WAR.

Its at Fenway so its the last regular season game vs the Yanks..but yea if Jeter goes down its a basic late season game vs the Yanks. Either way, 1200 bucks for a baseball game is ridiculous.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Rays must really like Karns. Likely watched him for more than 1 bullpen session?
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Rays must really like Karns. I was thinking the same thing. They must see something I am missing. He does have pretty sexy K numbers but knowing the Rays this guy will be lights out.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Karns has some nasty minor league numbers. Look at those K/9 and H/9. Rays will turn him into a dominant late inning guy.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 ChrisCotillo 32s #Mariners Franklin Gutierrez will miss the entire 2014 season, and has been placed on the restricted list. Gose + Santos for Franklin+
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 High ish walk rates too though Oh well, we'll see
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 ChrisCotillo 32s #Mariners Franklin Gutierrez will miss the entire 2014 season, and has been placed on the restricted list. Gose + Santos for Franklin+ I'm pretty hesitant to give up Gose without having much in the way of a backup for CF (pretty much just Pillar I think, who's more of an emergency guy there), but maybe we could get Saunders from them as part of the trade. We're also going to have potentially 2 outfield holes next year, and not much available at center.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 LOL Mariners - Montero shows up fat - Iwakuma likely out for April - The only capable CF defender on the roster is out for the season What a clusterf***. Noesi and Walker hurt
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Noesi and Walker hurt They need a 22 WAR season out of Cano and another 18 from King Felix
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 They pretty much have to sign a starter now. After spending all that money, they can't start the season with Paxton, Ramirez, Baker, and Beavan/Maurer rounding out the 2-5 spots in their rotation. Or trade for one (like Price). There was a lot of talk about that earlier this year too.
