Agreed.

If the Jays still had d'Arnaud as well, would you place d''Arnaud as their No. 1 prospect or Synder?

I would have d'Arnaud as the #4 prospect, if not lower.

I think the hard on for stroman needs to soften a bit

Whether his fastball is MLB starter calibre is a big question. The velocity is there and apparently the movement, but the flatter trajectory could be an issue. If the bigger, stronger, and better MLB hitters can tee off on his fastball, Stroman will end up having a career like Tom Gordon. Back end starter, moving to bullpen later in career. Gordon is 5'9" btw.

Let's be honest with ourselves, Stroman as a starter is like Frodo against Godzilla and his family; It will always be an uncertainty. Sanchez is a more viable option long term.

I'm going with Stroman. He is closer to the bigs, and has has success at higher levels and does not have the control issues of Sanchez. I really don't expect much from Sanchez to be honest. He has a higher ceiling, but the odds of him achieving it are slim.

If either of Stroman or Sanchez puts up 26 WAR in 9 years as a starter, I doubt anyone here would complain. Either one of them having that kind of career would be big win for us.

I agree 100%, but some here are fapping too much

I don't think anyone would disagree that Sanchez has the better stuff, and if everything goes right will have the far better career. He's also a much higher risk to bust. Stroman will probably be a #3 starter (maybe #2 if he's lucky), but he's reasonably likely imo to reach that projection. If we had a poll on who had the higher upside, there's no doubt that Sanchez would be above Stroman.

Pedro Martinez?
Pedro is probably about 3 inches taller and that's being generous to Stroman. It makes all the difference in the world.

In either case, even if Stroman ends up in the pen eventually, that has value. Not nearly as much as if he were starting, but he could end up a good closer and would be a valuable trading chip down the line if that were to happen,

Stroman isn't a max-effort guy though. At least not in comparison to most of the other short pitchers.
I'm not sure I would agree with that from what I have seen. He's got one of the more violent deliveries you'll ever see, just seems like an injury risk. That kind of stuff is so hard to predict, however.

That article does little to quell my concerns, as it barely touches on or ignores the problems I see in his delivery.

It depends on the pitcher, but the huge recoil after his pitches spells disaster for most guys. They way he drags his arm puts a high amount of stress on his shoulder as well. Finally, his starting position with his glove hand could lead to problems.

I'd love nothing better than to see him defy the odds like Lincecum, but since we're looking at probability when evaluating prospects, it's kind of foolish to bet on such a longshot in my opinion.

It doesn't necessarily matter what it does to him long term. He can still have tremendous value to us even if he only beats the odds for four or five years.

I'd say Stroman is OneA and Sanchez is OneB. Stroman is pretty much as sure a thing as exists in the minor leagues. #3 starter upside, high leverage reliever floor. Sanchez does have more upside but if you worry about Stroman's mechanics you see even worse with Sanchez. He is so far from a sure thing that it's exciting to watch and terrifying to imagine how poorly things could go.

One of the most appealing things about Sanchez is his sound mechanics, big body, and easy velocity...

I'd like to know who voted Sean Nolin and AJ Jimenez. They probably shouldn't be allowed to vote in the future polls too. You know, to make the list somewhat legitimate.

It's a public list, just click on one of the numbers and it'll show you.

No, Edelweiss boutique is

I realize. I didn't mean that you were saying he was. I was saying that since he isn't a troll, I'm interested in hearing such an uncommon opinion.

Based on the results, it's probably unnecessary to have a poll for the #2 prospect. Also, once we start moving down the list the opinions will greatly differ and more then 10 options should be available. Is that even possible? I obviously don't start polls. lol

I can understand picking Jimenez from a team needs perspective. He has a decent chance of having the biggest impact on the MLB squad in 2014 out of all those guys.

He'd be the answer to "Who is the prospect most likely to fill a desperate hole and you really, really hope he excels"

I feel like Franklin Barreto would be a better answer to that question. He's got a lot of talent and would be pretty sexy at 2B if he excelled.

I don't think anyone in their right mind thinks he's MLB ready.

I guess I should rephrase the question "Who is the prospect most likely to fill a desperate hole and you really, really hope he excels in 2014"

Let's just hope and pray 2B isn't a hole until Barreto is ready.

Well, Navarro has C locked up somewhat right now, but he has it locked up enough that it might not be our most pressing issue.

Funny enough, depending on your definition of the word, Ryan Goins might be our "really, really hope he excels in 2014 to plug a desperate hole," but the whole "most likely" part is another story. Stroman also has an argument, as do Gose/Pillar/Sierra.
