jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 The only way the Yankees are getting under 189 is if A-Rod gets the 211 game suspension, as they are over 189 as it is. Current projections have them over $200M as is, including benefits and taxes, along with call-ups and arb raises. And if you're expecting the Yanks to get Kershaw, dream on. The Dodgers are going to resign him at any cost. Ditto for Scherzer with the Tigers and Lester in Boston. Most other "elite" options have options years for 2015 as well. So don't start think the Yanks will be able to reload.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 Where did I say vets shouldn't be moved? I've been a big fan of the idea of moving Bautista and am not opposed to moving anyone on this roster if it makes sense. Addressing needs and trading vets are two different things, but feel free to spin things. Generally speaking if you're fond of the window talk, you'd obviously not want to move the core/vets. So my question is when do the vets/core get moved? My thoughts are the team should abandon the window they've drawn up and slowly go back to what they were doing. Start moving pieces, instead of holding strong to this pie in the sky plan.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 Maybe someone reading will take the 30 mins or so to calculate likely values for these names going forward and we can get a nice clean sensible list. Do you guys want all the surplus values from steamer projections calculated?

That being said I can't do anything to control what they do, and considering they are moving ahead with this window, what else is there to do but consider options to improve the team? I'm not advocating trading the farm, never have been. However, I'm not opposed to moving a highly risky arm like Sanchez if we're getting another youngish player back that won't be completely depreciated in 3 years when greater number of internal options present themselves.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 We said it all offseason last year: if AA took the team to it's payroll limit last year than this team is utterly f***ed. Everyone knew that just maintaining the old expensive roster he assembled would cost $130+ million in 2014 and actually fielding a viable 2015 roster would cost $150+ million. I don't know what's worse: AA being at his limit, or AA not realizing that even $10+ million for Infante would be an excellent way to improve the 2014 roster by 2 wins without mortgaging any of the future. Actually BTS , You were the one pointing out the the payroll limitations and were right . I just don't agree that overpaying for guys like Infante would fix the situation . I just think there are too many question marks . Melky ??? , Morrow ??? Bench ??? ,Goins ??? Navarro ??? and add a s***** free agent class to the mix . Too many holes and not enough money or talent to fix them . Besides most of that talent won't come here . Hope and Pray the the Diabetic Duo catch lightning in a bottle . The injury god focuses on the Red Sox and Yanks and we keep our decimated farm talent intact .

GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 Yep, go for it. Dickey's is probably gonna be a bit low unless I include his Dickey effect numbers.
Howard Roark Verified Member Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 Dickey's is probably gonna be a bit low unless I include his Dickey effect numbers. My dickey has been a bit low all offseason, so don't fret about it.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 I said the Red Sox are slightly worse. They're still a top team, but losing Ellsbury does hurt in the leadoff spot. Whoever replaces him, either Victorino or Nava, will be a downgrade regardless. And AJ Pierzynski is a downgrade over Salty, and is basically there as a stopgap for their top catching prospects Blake Swihart and Christian Vazquez. But they will see upgrades at SS with Bogaerts playing every day offensively. And they do still have Middlebrooks, unless he's dealt due to Drew resigning, if he does. And the rotation and bullpen are strong, but one pitcher may get dealt in order to free up money and playing time for their younger pitchers. I feel Ellsbury is a poor fit, considering they already have Brett Gardner and Derek Jeter in the lineup, and are expecting Beltran, Tex and McCann to produce runs.. the problem is that McCann hasn't hit for a decent average since 2011, and can't hit lefties. And don't get me started on Tex. And who's gonna hit 3rd? Losing Cano and his .300/30/100 numbers are going to hurt. Ellsbury's not the answer, as he's never hit more than 10 HR outside of 2011.

Start moving pieces, instead of holding strong to this pie in the sky plan. Imagine you're the GM of a team that just grossly underperformed. The boss tells you in order to retain your job security going forward it is imperative that the team remains competitive in 2014. What do you do? I'm not suggesting this happened (although you'd have to assume it did), but stripping the team down of pieces that were just recently required and/or pieces that were signed to highly valuable extensions would require this front office to completely swallow their pride. THEY built this roster and it's too late for them to differ from the plan they sold to everyone last year. The issue here is what BTS brought up. Our front office cannot seem to set their sights on the middle tier grouping of players that would each respectively bring a marginal increase in wins. How are we not giving Infante 41+ million or Ellis 2 years? Instead we're supposedly scouring the trade market for pitchers that would almost ALWAYS require us to give up Sanchez, Stroman and others. That's the standard Alex set last offseason with the Dickey trade and that's why he's not going to be the guy for us going forward. Let this year blow up in the face of our management, allow Rogers to gut the entire place and then we can start the process of "going back to what we were doing". That may seem unreasonable, but I think it's clear as day that with Alex in charge, we're never going to be a team with a patient and structured approach.

I have said all off season that you give it till Trade deadline and see where you are but don't gut the minors trying to get there and still think that way . Compounding the wrongs of last year by overpaying in money and years to sign a 1 or 2 war player is senseless when you have so many question marks . If Morrow is hurt again all year , Melky is done and Navrrao reverts back to the fat lazy bastard he was in Tampa then Samardzija and Infante would still put us as a 4th place team at best 80 wins and we would have another bad contract at 2nd ,a 1 year starter and NO farm . Lots of value on this team and if Rogers and the Beast just let AA build it up thru the system like he had been doing then we will be fine .

It's not even great lengths. Proxies really aren't that hard to set up and it's not even for this. It's useful for stuff like Netflix, Hulu, other stuff where certain countries are blacked out.

Probably latch on to some useless government contract Try being a finance manager I imagine it's not hard, considering your entire portfolio is limited to the $5 your mom gives you to take the trash out each week.
