jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 This deal would be getting crushed if any other team but the Rays extended it. It doesn't make much sense. Loney doesn't walk, has no power and his defense is good but overrated. And there's no upside other than the always-present possibility of a fluky BABIP. We haven't heard any input from BTS, who is a die hard Rays fan and has posters and statues of Andrew Friedman in his bedroom lol.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 This was a terrible move plain and simple. They would KILL to get Edwin
Chappy Community Moderator Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 They would KILL to get Edwin Watch AA trade Edwin for Price and Loney, lol.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 I was in a thread about a month ago arguing with someone who wanted to sign Loney. I believe my argument was something along the lines of "The Rays are so good because they catch lightning in a bottle and then let other teams overpay for a clearly unsustainable performance". Oops. Time until BTS changes his avatar to the Cards ... 3 ... 2 ... 1

Butler to Jays (Rasmus) Maybe that's the 3-way... Bluejays get: butler + walker + Cain KC gets: Rasmus Pirates get: Lind + kc prospect.

This is the first trade offer I've seen on these boards this offseason where I could legitimately see myself giving up Rasmus and being somewhat comfortable with it. Only problem is that it's been said several times, there's no way in hell the Pirates are going to give you Walker for Lind. It's even been reported that they asked the Jays for Lind and when the Jays mentioned Walker, the Pirates essentially hung up.

It'd probably be a decent enough one. I definitely wouldn't mind that going down. Whenever Cain's actually healthy, he's been very productive. He's a little like what Gose was supposed to be. Steamer and Oliver both have him at a 3.4ish win pace, but Steamer only projects 475 PA for him so that'd be around 2.6 wins. Walker's projected between 3.1 and 3.3 wins and right there, LoCain + Walker already likely provide excess wins over Rasmus and Lind. Then we add Butler as well. And it actually seems realistic. I would support this.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 So, will you be boarding my CainTrain? The first thing that comes up when you google CainTrain: I'll pass lol. I doubt he gets traded unless it's in a deal like that

I doubt he gets traded unless it's in a deal like that I'm not sure GMDM knows how valuable he is... but not sure AA does either. Maybe they can get him in a deal with Butler... either way, Herman Cain for USA!
