Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Man would I love us to nab Franklin + Saunders (I'm assuming one or both of LoMo and Hart will play in the outfield, not that they SHOULD). Saunders would nicely fill the LF hole that opens up in 2015 for us, and I still believe is ready to break out if he can get out of Safeco.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Didn't they sign Hart as well? Morrison, Hart, Smoak, Montero. Redundancy.. But Jack Z likes having four 1B/DH. Oh no we let two 1B/DH walk so we need two more, even though we still have 2! Talk about throwing s*** at the wall. Hart is probably the only one who would project for anything close to league average production, and he's coming off major surgery. LoMo I like a little bit and I'd take him over Smoak, but they both probably play at replacement level. Montero might as well retire.

I think I'd prefer Smoak over LoMo, but both have some upside.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 If a Logan Morrison trade isn't material for the "Around Baseball" thread, what is? The guy is AAAA player with a big mouth. WHy does anyone care about him? David Ortiz - 108 ops+ with Minn. Morrison 107+ with Florida. Not saying Morrison = Ortiz... but hesistant to declare by decree that he is not worthy of discussion.

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Ooooh that would be awesome. What would it take though? No idea (Jack Z is insane). Both could be fully expendable though, especially if the Mariners land Choo.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Ooooh that would be awesome. What would it take though? Nothing we have that the Mariners want. They don't need prospects which makes it tough. Only thing we have that they'd want is bautista or rasmus Which is why trading for Franklin or Ackley is going to be hard for AA

David Ortiz is a rarity, a once in a life-time player that blossoms into a dangerous slugger late in his career What about Pujols? Are we going to fret and cry everytime we pass a player up to the 13th round, just in case he becomes Pujols?
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Well, I think two things are certain: The Mariners offense has improved dramatically, and they may set some kind of record for poor defense next year.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 WTF happened to Montero (aside from the large park he plays in). His bat was uber-hyped on his rise through the minors (Yankees bias aside).

I think if they didn't already set that record with Ibanez and Morse last year, they won't have to worry about getting it this year.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 They got good offense from Ibanez and Morales last year. Hart should be able to match morales offense numbers, and Morrison could match ibanez.. probably not much more. Just focusing on offense, they haven't added much more other than Cano (who is obviously a big improvement)

The trend is rather amusing. GM gets a big park. Clearly the rational thing to do is sign guys who can't field...

He probably should have been hyped to something like Freddie Freeman level not Buster Posey level.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 He was never projected to be a catcher though was he? His hype was strictly with his bat It wasn't a slam dunk that he wouldn't stick at catcher although it was the educated opinion of several. I'm convinced reluctance to completely shut the door on his catcher eligibility contributed to the hype. He did show good power though.
