KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Though base stealing is a skill Gose could outrun Davis in a 100 yard dash, but he is not (yet) nearly as skilled a base stealer That's an understatement. He's actually a terrible base stealer. He gets caught stealing at an alarming rate for someone with his speed.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Article on Rajai's baserunning from Dave Cameron at Fangraphs: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/a-fun-tidbit-on-rajai-davis/ The bones of it, "Since he debuted, he’s 8th in baseball in baserunning value, and the seven guys ahead of him all got at least 1,000 more plate appearances than he did."
Ehjays Verified Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Ha! Davis stole 10 more bases than the entire Tigers Roster last year.

He's just incredibly awkward at times.

He's just incredibly awkward at times. He makes bad decisions at times, but that incredible first step and ability to hit top speed almost immediately make up for it. There's guys in the league faster, but I don't think we've seen the explosiveness Davis has since Henderson.

The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 So what happens when Bautista and Cabrera get injured? Pillar/Rasmus/Gose for an outfield doesn't look all that great to me...
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 So what happens when Bautista and Cabrera get injured? Pillar/Rasmus/Gose for an outfield doesn't look all that great to me... How could you so calously ignore Moise Sierra?
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 This cannot be assumed. I'd bet that one of them go on the DL this year. Laws of averages.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 How could you so calously ignore Moise Sierra? He's gonna get traded for an ace reliever to replace Santos.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 We're f***ed as any team would be. I wish they would soon move Bautista to 1B. There's a lot less chance of him getting injured. I like that he gives it his all out there but we don't need our 2nd best hitter diving around in the OF and sliding into walls, he's too old for that s***.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Rajai is a smart dude, I'll miss him alot http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNKVzqoLpfE Best part of this video is the reporter says spring training is a few weeks away. Then the reporter asks Rajai when his juices started flowing for the upcoming season. Rajai replies with the juices started flowing a couple days ago, when he picked up a bat. Said he remembers how to hold it. Uh, shouldn't you have been hitting most of the offseason, not two weeks before ST? Love the guy, hope he does well in DET.

I like that he gives it his all out there but we don't need our 2nd best hitter diving around in the OF and sliding into walls, he's too old for that s***. He could be forced to reach into the runner to get a throw and hurt his arm, or get his foot stomped on (etc). I don't think in general any position should be an extra injury concern except pitcher and catcher.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Disagree, Bautista was a plus fielder last year, and was above average in 2012 as well. His value is significantly hurt by moving to 1B. I also don't believe in saying theres a better chance he's healthier. Injuries are a shot in the dark. He is a plus fielder, but he could also be plus at 1st. I don't know, it just seemed like most of his injures were caused by him diving in the OF.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 So you're saying trade Lind + for a 2nd baseman, move Jose to first and sign an OF'er on top of an SP or two? Ain't happening, not this year. KingKat has the answer... LOL How could you so calously ignore Moise Sierra?
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 What does that have to do with the future though? Doesn't mean it will continue, or he won't get hurt at first. It doesn't mean it will continue, but it may. Of course this won't happen anyway as long as we have both Lind and EE. I would think it would be easier to get hurt in the OF then at 1B... Has a study on that ever been done?
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 he's gonna be converted into an ace reliever to replace santos. ftfy
